parting thoughts

It's so hard to believe I've only got a week left of school--and that I'm nearly 1/4 done with Vanderbilt! AAAHHHH!! I'm really excited to come home for the summer, and I'm really excited about all the things that Vandy has in store for me next year, but--as always--I'm a bit sad to move on. I think more than anything I'm going to miss the girls on my hall. Yeah, some of them are crazy drunken sex addicts, but that just makes them all the more endearing. And then there are those of them that are crazy even without alcohol. I'm going to miss them the most. Our awesome corner, which by now has expanded to lots of people, even on the other end of the hall. Our pranks, played at all hours of the night. Our attempts to spread the joy of cookies, chocolate, and liberal propaganda to the rest of the hall. Playing set/apples to apples/scrabble/uno/etc all the time. Our friendly greetings of "Hey bitch!" or "You Ho!" Watching hours and hours of Friends in Ronnie's room. Daphne's elaborate story-telling. Anum's "black"-ness. Casey's running up and down the hall because she always has "places to go, people to see," even when she obviously doesn't. Jenn im-ing me, and before I can im her back, seeing her proud-of-herself face in my doorway. And even though I'll see lots of these amazing girls to various degrees next year (some in the same building, TBS, Rand...), it won't be the same. It's weird that I'll be living on a different part of campus, in a different room. I've gotten so used to my cement-block walls and the magnolias out my window. And the 2 second walk to the French building. But there are many, many good things to come.

On to an entirely unrelated subject. This weekend was Rites of Spring. It was nice on Thursday, warmish but windy w/some rain on Thursday, and freezing on Saturday. But I, like lots of my friends and other Vandy students, braved the weather to go to a bunch of awesome outdoor concerts. I didn't spend a huge amount of time there (there were performances from early afternoon to late night each day), but I did get to hear some good music. I went to Cake on Thursday night, which was fun--hung out w/band people mostly. Friday afternoon/early evening I went with my hallmates and we heard a British (I think) band, which was really good, and a random local band, which was alright. Anum has a crush on everyone that played Friday. Saturday night 11-1 was Hootie and the Blowfish (!!), which was a really amazing concert. I went with Nick. We had so much fun people watching--perhaps more entertaining than the music itself, but it was close. Lots of drunk people acting dumb. And some asshole decided it would be a good idea to throw a beer can on stage....uh-huh. Good thinking, buddy. But all-in-all, twas an awesome experience.

I can't wait to come home and see ya'll for 3 whole months!! YEA! Good luck on finals and papers and such...maybe I should go do that.
