On my way home from work I listened to a live feed from the state capitol as they voted on whether Blago would be impeached.
It ended up 59 in favor and 0 not in favor.
This is a good thing. But the saddest reality of this trial is my suspicion that this witch hunt for Blago's head was fueled less by Illinois government's desire to do the right thing and more by the fact he broke their code. He got caught doing what politicians do... buy and sell democracy.
Their attack on him had to be swift and decisive and stop at a strategic point before it got too far and ended up ratting out other politicians... perhaps even our newly elected president.
If any new legislation comes out of this it will more likely protect the politicians and not us. These people are our answer to a monarchy. Put them in a fancy house and watch them dive into an orgy of excess.
