Home decor! Home decor! Home decor!

So, because Greg owns/runs a business where they end up with perfectly good furniture just sitting around, we have been on the quest for a new sofa and chair. Yesterday, Greg tells me that first thing in the AM, we will be getting a chair, end table and sofa; however, they will need new slipcovers, as the ones they have are green and cream with jungle, respectively.

For those of you who haven't been in my house, my living room is purple and gray.  Not just light purple- eggplant purple.  Gray accents and gray rug/curtains. Our original furniture was white to brighten things up, but the dogs totally destroyed that scheme.

The furniture gets here, and the couch is a smaller couch with older styling, as is the little green chair. The chair is - yay! - apple green.  Personally, I like the green/purple combo, so I wont' be changing that.  The couch's slipcover, however, is a TERRIBLE yellowish color with a fern pattern in blue, green, brown, and dark yellow.  YIKES.  Because of the older style of the couch, a store-bought cover won't work.

I then get the bright idea to dye it.  Can't make it any worse, right?

I decide to try and make it gray by using black Rit Dye. After an hour in the dye, I take it out, and behold, it is grayish-purple.  The fern pattern is now more subtle and vintage-y rather than garish, and it totally brings the gray, purple and green together.  LOVE.

This is the before and after. The after here is a little darker than the finished product because it's still wet, but you get the idea.

The finished product, modeled by Lily.  It looks so awesome in person. :)

Yay for upcycling!
