Well, I've been spending a lot of time at galleries and mingling in the art scene. It's been good for me. I've made a LOT of connections. If you're not familiar with the Art Guys, I spend an evening at the Red Bud gallery talking with them about many things. Very well known artists (for those who do not know).. and it was very engaging and humorous conversation. Seen some bad art.. seen some good art.. have yet to see anything really spectacular anywhere ... in any art scene... whether here or New York.. or Chicago.. etc. It seems that art is taking on an aesthetic that I'm not even remotely attracted to or inclined to adopt. My boss is an well known and respected artist here and it's been very good for me working for him and being introduced to very influential people. Most people tell me not to waste my time in Grad school because my work (paintings) are so powerful and compelling that I should just jump right in and produce.. and show.. and hustle my work. I suppose we will see. I have several confirmations for grad schools in the fall, and now that the ball is rolling for me, I'm debating. Just debating. I'm feeling magnificent and getting to know some amazing people.
This week I will be on a tour presenting my mother's Choral Textbooks to different school districts from amarillo to dallas to texarkana. Sigh. it's just a week though. The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit was very fascinating.. prompted me to begin reading a lot about it. And then I watched a PBS special on the Mars Rovers.. which was very interesting as well. They were only supposed to last a few weeks and they've lasted many months now collecting data. It's really amazing what they've found. They've been able to prove that life can.. and may have before exist on the planet. (if you dont know already).. but the show was very informative.
I've been reading a lot lately. Painting a lot. The art scene has been very motivating.. not that i really need much motivation to work. Someone told me once.. "I don't wake up each morning to be mediocre at anything.. " ..... I couldn't agree more.
