My name is Ben Vess and I am an American.
I have a father who is in jail for trying to lure a thirteen year old girl from the internet. He does not have his rights as an American citizen while incarcerated. If he gets married during his time in jail, his relationship will be recognized and blessed by America.
I do not have that right.
I am a college student on a break like many others in this world. I have graduated from high school. I drive a car and work a norml job. I pay my fucking taxes just like everyone else.
My rights as an American is limited, not like everyone else.
I feel that it is important that I put an emphasiasm on my name: it is Ben Vess. A living being with a name like humans signify the fact that each of them are individuals. I am not merely gay, I am an American, I am white, I am a boy, I am a son, a brother. First and foremost, my name is Ben Vess.
Why do you feel you deserve more rights than I do? Aren't you an American, just like me?
I do not ask you to accept who I am. I merely ask for recognition. I recognize straight people, although they do not appeal to me. I recognize criminals, although they deserve their rights to be deprived. I recognize christians and muslims, although i disagree with their cultistic styles of beliefs. I recognize but do not always accept them. I am Ben Vess, will you recognize me as an individual?
Do I deserve the same right as every other American citizen to life, property, and pursuit of happiness?
Is it self-evident that we are created equal?
