This week, my parents got another dog. So now we have rudy (he's the golden retriver pup) and tucker (who is a blood hound about 2 years old). My mom and dad saw Tucker in the Sunday local newspaper. He was at the Allegany County Animal Shelter. They just couldn't believe it. My mom has always wanted a blood hound. When they saw him in the paper, I had no clue that we were going to get him. The next day, my mom called and said from work and said she had just checked him out at the animal shelter. She was like "you and your dad need to check him out too!" So, I went with my dad and he fell in love with the dog too. I'm always have mixed feelings about getting new pets, because I feel kinda like I'm replacing my old, now gone dogs.
Tuesday, I had a half a day at work. After work, my parents and I got our cats and Rudy vacinated for rabbies. Taking the animals to the vet was kinda humorous. In the waiting room, I was trying to get Rudy to behave and I ended up running into my 9th grade Spanish teacher, who i haven't seen in ages and is a very awesome person. Anyways, we had to get my other pets vaccinated because that's what the animal shelter requires to get a new dog. makes sense actually. After all that craziness, we quickly ran to the animal shelter, hoping that nobody had already adopted Tucker. At the time, tucker was being refered to as Red. On the way to the animal shelter, we were discussing names. I liked the ideas of Elvis or Elwood, but then I got the idea of Tucker! and somehow it stuck. He's a very huge dog. We're pretty sure he's about 2 years old and that he is a pure bread. I'm very happy that we were able to give him a good home. Right now, he's lying on the floor, sleeping. it's soo cute.
As for the rest of the week, things have seemed to go by very fast. It's friday already. Work went good. I did 4 hours on Wednesday and then 6 hours yesterday and 6 hours today. Nothing very memorable happened Wednesday. Atleast I can't think of anything. Same with Thursday.
Oh wait, there was something memorable...and it's good news too. I found out Wednesday night that I am going to be published! that's right one of my poems that I submitted back in May for the Backbone Mountain Review, which is this new literary magazine that the area arts councels and the center for creative writing at FSU are putting together., was choose to be in the debut issue. The debut issue is coming out sometime this fall. I am so thrilled with this. I never thought that "October" would have been picked over other things. I never thought I would get picked either! haha. According to the letter I recieved in the mail, there were tons of submissions and that the selection process was long and very competitive. The Lit mag is a showcase of my area's talent with writing, and believe it or not, there's a lot of talent in terms of accomplished published writers and professors in my area, so to be published alongside of them is an honor. Plus for me, it's bragging rights over every person in high school who ever wrote shit poetry and said I had no clue how to write! I feel a bit accomplished. nah, I feel very accomplished and just honored that this committee of writers and area art critics liked atleast one of my pieces. (also wednesday, i talked to someone and i might um...have a date soon? more details on that in another entry........)
One more thing about Wednesday.... Luck happened I got this offer through Live Nation for two free tickets at one of their concerts. I had to pick from a list. I got two tickets for Santana and Los Lonely Boys at Nisan Pavillion. My mom is totally stoked about this. I picked this concert, because I knew she would love it! Yeah i'm giving my mom concert tickets. the show is september 26th. I'm sure she's gonna love it.
As for today, it was rather memorable. It was my last day working at the Frostburg State University Foundation. I'm going to kinda miss all of it. My coworkers are very awesome people. The gals in the office took me out to lunch since it was my last day. They took me out to the Sandspring Saloon, which is this neat joint in Frostburg. they have really good food too! Before I went to lunch, My two bosses (one of them is my neighbor actually that's how i got the job back in june) gave me this awesome FSU messenger bag with all sorts of goodies!
For those who didn't know what I did, i was basically the office girl. But mostly, I worked with the Foundation's bookkeeper. I know that she likes tea a lot like I do, so I gave her some gormet teas and a tea ball to brew lose tea. I got the gift from this really cool tea shop that just opened in Cumberland. I went there Wednesday night for the stuff. Alicia, the book keeper, was really surprised about what I gave her. I figured It would be a nice thank you gift for her putting up with me for the summer :)
After work, I stopped by and visited with a dear friend of mine who works at Frostburg State University. She's basically a mentor and a former advisor. I was in this program my freshman year at Frostburg State University, called Hallstars! and it was a community service/ service learning program. I absolutely loved doing that. I also started Student center of Volunteerism. anyways, my good friend was my advisor and boss in that program. she was the person we all answered to. i hope that makes sense. It was really nice to see her and just shoot the breeze about current Maryland politics and all sorts of things. It's always nice to talk to people who motivate you as well. She looks out for her students even when they're gone. So as you can tell, it was a great visit and I'm so happy that I stopped in.
I am hoping to go out tonight with some old friends from FSU. I think my friend brent and I are gonna check out Dan's Mountain. (hell yes!) but plans are rather in the air i still. Tomorrow, I'll be spending the day packing for school. I move Sunday and start classes Wednesday. It's like "Holy crap. where has all the summer gone!????" but really, i'm looking forward to getting back to school and giving it all I got. I'm also excited about my radio show. It is now offically happening Wednesday Mornings 10 am to Noon! So yes, you should check it
www.wmucradio.com !
I think that's it for now. I will probably update again before I move to UMD. I have to tell you all about the awesome concerts that are happening this fall and the possibility of a date haha. As for now, I am going to go listen to some old school Madonna. (yeah, i need to write about that too. I'm addicted to old school Madonna for the first ever in my life, thanks to a friend of mine. oh and I'm also addicted to "run to you" by bryan adams. well basically any 1983/1985 era bryan adams. yes you can laugh at that!) So trust me, I am going to have more to post soon. Hopefully, I can also post some photos!
