the best saturday night ever...

Feb 24, 2006 00:03

I haven't posted in a long time really. so i know have to talk about how awesome things have been in the past while. i'll post more about the recent things sometime later...

This past weekend Sarah, my sister, visited me and that was awesome. Saturday night was the highlight though!

Saturday was probably the most sureal day ever. More like saturday evening/night, but still it was amazing. I had my interview with She Wants Revenge. It was mind melting. Probably one of the best conversations I've had in a looong while. My sister and I got to the black cat a little after 7 pm. I was under the impression my interview would be at 7 and i was freaking out over the thought of being late. Lucky for me though, they were in the middle of sound check still. Their tour manager was really nice. He talked to my sister and I and told us to wait in the red bar room and that Adam and Justin would join us soon. the second i heard that, my heart just went ka-thud. haha. I was excited and nervous. I wasn't sure what to think or what to expect. All I knew at that moment was I was going to interview one of the most important up and coming bands of this year and probably important for some years to come. After waiting for about 10 minutes, Adam comes down stairs to the red bar room and we're introduced. the tour manager said that justin should be joining us soon. So, my sister, adam and I are sitting in this booth. We wait a few minutes for Justin before I start the interview. We talked for like 10 minutes i think. It was nice and felt normal. Like i was just shooting the breeze with a new friend or something. We then decide that it's best to go ahead without Justin. I hit record and I start asking questions. I will have more details on what was said later. I'm still transcribing everything. Anyways, we talked about all sorts of stuff from rumors of them touring with depeche mode to djing to music (especially prince and other new wave goodies) and we even talked about life. I told adam about my crush on chris and how their song "someone must get hurt" was like my anthem. We discussed how much it sucks to get hurt and how great it is that music can heal. By that time, Justin finally came in and sat down with us! which was great. he said "sorry i was late, but somebody had to count the t-shirts." he handles the merch...that's so hot.

Justin was really laid back. actually both guys were. they were cooler than you can imagine. We continued discussing music. I asked justin about how he keeps his songwriting fresh. he inspired me about my own writing. At the end of the interview, I got the guys to do a radio liner for my show. it sounds sooo awesome! they signed my album and my sister's red bandana. Adam signed my album and it says "thank you for such an amazing interview". Justin signed the front cover and then ended up taking my pen and signing the inside of my album too. he left me words of encouragement. We all got photos and stuff and it was rad.

My friend liz showed up. I had an extra ticket and felt that she would enjoy the show. the awesome thing is that she did and she helped me take photos! woo hoooo! (thank you liz!!!)

the show was really fun. the first band reminded me of the alarm and echo and the bunnymen. they were alright. i think the static age does it better.

as for she wants revenge, oh geeze... i was right up against the stage. while waiting for them to start, the dj was spinning the smiths "what difference does it make?" I started singing along and adam walked on stage and saw me haha. it was great, because we both talked earlier about our love for the smiths. he gave me a thumbs up and a wink.

the set was brillant. they were amazing. more emotional and energetic than interpol. justin knows how to dance. he is smooth. the sounds of the songs were really great. the set list was bliss. they kicked it off with "red flags and long nights" and it was really cool seeing adam and justin standing, facing each other playing their guitar and bass guitar. It was all leading up to a good moment. I tried taking photos but my camera went psychotic on me. good thing liz had her digital camera! i can't remember the exact set list order. I just remember great highlights. I danced and moved my body hard during "out of control." i sang my guts out during most of the songs. I freaked out when they played "why can't i spend the night," I wasn't expecting them to play a song from their ep. i melted during these things. I just remember letting go and just singing along like crazy. This annoying girl was trying to get me out of my spot so she could be near the stage and i pushed her away haha. well i let her stand near me, but i wasn't going to give up my spot. She was just annoying the whole evening. more about her and her friend in a little bit...

Right before "someone must get hurt" was played, adam said something along the lines about how crushes suck and how the song was going out to someone who is afraid to get hurt. he was refering to ME! I about hit the floor. I screamed out "thank you adam" He was on the other side of the stage, but he heard me. That song, that moment, made me fearless and just ready to let go and leave so much behind, which is exactly what i did this week. anyways, the last song was tear you apart and it got intense. the whole set was fucking intense. i think they carried a lot of angst and energy. It was beautiful. Though I don't like making comparisions, but they had the same sort of energy and emotion as nine inch nails or nick cave or prince. there was something really powerful and sincere.

The electric six were the last to play and they were fucking great. Funny, energetic, very rock and roll. They played all the songs I wanted to hear. My sister and I danced like maniacs on the dance floor in the back of the room. We had a lot of fun two steppin' to gay bar and pictures of your naked mother. Remember the annoying girl who tried taking my spot, well the skank and her friend (who was also a skank) came back where sarah and i were dancing and tried to get Adam's attention. The whole time sarah and i were dancing i noticed adam from the corner of my eyes haha. He would later comment about how my sister and i were better dancers! but yeah the skanky fan girls were trying to get his attention and were being idiots. i have a feeling they're just into the music because it's trendy. anyways, sarah and i decided that we should go to the 80's dance party down stairs after the show is over. While the E6 finished their set, I handed adam the information about my radio show. (he listens now might i add haha) and he asked me if sarah and i were going to be downstairs after the show and i told him that we were. He was hoping to spin some records!!!

The E6 finished up and Liz wasn't feeling well so she went home. (i can't wait for the smoking ban to happen!) Sarah went down stairs ahead of me. I met up with her and she told me that she ran into Justin and he gave her a hug and asked her if we were going to be at the dance party thing. haha. cute, right? So the show was over and we snagged food from food for thought. ate really fast and went into the back bar room.

At first the music the dj was playing was cool, but it was trendy 80s stuff. Sarah and I danced for a while. out of nowhere the guys from the electric six came in. We danced with I think the bass player. it was when the dj spun a-ha's take on me.

I don't remember what time it was when adam and justin came in. I remember Adam came in first. I said Hi to him and he gave me a high five. (gnar!) I asked him if he was gonna dj and he said hopefully. I was really hoping he would too ya know. He left the room and i was hanging out next to the dj booth and Justin walks in and gives me a huge hug. we talk about stuff for a little bit. Like how the music was starting to suck (major tom is not a dancable song, seriously!) He informed me that he doesn't normally go out like at all, except to see friends. I told him that I go out because back where I am from, I never got to dance to depeche mode, new order, ect... at any school dances or stuff. it was all nothing but mediocre rap and country. he gave me sympathy on that. Adam came back and they started asking the dj to please let adam spin some records. The dj wouldn't let him. such bs. i mean i think any good dj would be honored to have a last minute guest. I remember Justin left the room when dj lil'e started playing James' this bed is on fire. I love that song, but it isn't dance music. Then joy division came on, Adam was near by so i sort of danced with him to Love will tear us apart. it was cute. I had a grea time. I went up and requested Depeche Mode's Lie to Me. the dj was like "i'm only playing dance music. i'll have the smiths on soon though." WTF? how could the smiths be dance music and not depeche mode? She played the smiths. I was standing beside Adam telling him about how she dissed depeche mode. and then the smiths came on. It was panic! I told him that I loved the irony of her playing this song. He laughed. It's true "hang the dj!!!" I promised sarah that after the smiths we would hit back home to my dorm. After the smiths, Adam was leaving the room. I think he was going to be back but sarah and i said our goodbyes. he gave us hugs and kisses on the cheeks. and informed us that swr will be back in dc in april! (april 1st...it was announced today!)

sarah and i didn't get home until 3:30 am. We got chinese and got to bed around 4:30 am. It was a crazy evening, but it was soo special. I still can't believe how amazing it was. I still am wondering if it was all a dream. Either way, I feel honored. And I'm only hoping for a beautiful friendship to happen.

ps- tomorrow night for more rock and roll adventure, my friend melonie and i are going to see head automatica in towson. and i have an interview with them, which will be rad! I am proud to be able to follow my dream. I just hope it really takes me places. So far it has!
