With Teeth

Tuesday night, I recieved an email from my best friend Liz that she had an extra ticket for nine inch nails, because her roomate couldn't go, because she was sick (get well soon Judy). NIN were coming to DC the following night (which was last night). I wasn't sure if I could or should go. I called my mom and she said i'd be a fool not to. So, I called Liz and we made arrangements to meet at the MCI Center.

Last night was amazing. When i say amazing, that word isn't even good enough to describe how great Nine Inch Nails are live. I left UMD around 3 pm to meet up with Liz at the MCI center around 330 pm. We met up a little after 3:30 pm outside of the venue and found out that we could wait inside for Will Call to open again. She got her tickets through the spiral fan club, which is very exciting. Unfortunately, we got there too late for the soundcheck, but the cool thing is that we got to hear it while waiting for will call to open. The two things that stick out in my mind was hearing "something i can never have" and then their cover of joy division's "Dead Souls." hearing both was a bit chilling, but very cool. After we got the tickets, we figured out where the special enterance was for the spiral fan club premium members. We waited in line for a little bit and was able to go inside. After getting wrist bands for being on the floor, we stood in line to go inside the arena, which felt like forever. When we were allowed in, Liz found a great spot. We ended up right up front, very close to the baracade on the left side of the stage. Doors opened for the public like around 530 pm, but no one came in until well after 6 pm, it felt like.

Fast forward to 7 pm, death from above 1979 hits the stage. They're a two piece band of guitar and drums. the lead singer plays drums, which was cool. They were decent, but i got bored with them towards the end. they did a half hour set. Queens of the stone age got on stage around 8 pm. They did an hour set, which was incredible. Very strong guitars, very bluesy. They played all their hits too.

Around 930 pm, NIN took the stage. Jordie was playing bass almost infront of us, which was pretty rad. Trent looked amazing. The whole band looked cool as hell. I love the guitarist, he was crazy on stage. The performance was intense. I hope to see them again someday! Another thing, there's nothing more theraputic than screaming along to "terrible lie"! When they played hurt, all i could think of was my friend nathan. someday, me and him are going to see them together. and well, that song just reminds me of the past. and one more thing, while being so close to the front, i never got hurt! which totally kicks ass too.

here is the set list: (unfortuantely, it was only 90 minutes long)

I got back to college park around 12 something am. ran into my friends from the radio station (sammy and kristy) while waiting for the train. we all walked back to campus together and on the way, got something to eat and talked about the show.

As you can tell, this has probably been one of the best nights out i've had in a long, long time. So much love to my friends who chilled with me. And a huge thanks to Liz, the most coolest person I know (and i'm honored to be her friend).

nin, concert, adventure, liz
