I like to stay busy, it keeps my mind fresh

Oct 24, 2007 11:25

I hate giving update entries. It feels like that's all I do sometimes. Oh well. I get busy and then I find time to write. Here is some highlights of the past two weeks.

October 12th - The last time I wrote an entry was about meeting Gary Williams, which was pretty rad. But there was other cool things that happened after that entry was made. I went to see Tiger Army at the Black Cat. I actually dressed up for the show. For once in my life, I actually felt attractive. I wonder if anyone else picked up on those vibes. (Spam was at the show for his birthday and the poor dude was sick. I have awful timing I think. I just wonder if he noticed how good I was looking haha.) As for the show, it was pretty fun! I was able to see a few friends of mine which was really great. I even ran into a friend of mine who I haven't seen in like a year and he was just at the Black Cat for a drink haha. As for the music, I was really happy to have seen the Static Age. Those guys are soo nice and I just love their music even more now. As for TA, they always rock my socks.  Street Dogs were awesome. It was a good night needless to say.

October 15th- A blessing happened. I got this email about my fincial aid being changed. I'm thinking I lost my work study, but nope. Turns out that I got this grant from the University because of my fincial need being so great. After this grant went through, I only owed 25 cents (holy shit!) to the university for the semester. Looks like that's the same deal for next semester too! I told my mom about it and she started crying. She was happy that she wouldn't have to worry about my tuition bill. (My mom works one full time and two part time jobs for those who don't know). I just feel really blessed that I got this grant and when I payed my bill off this past Wednesday that felt pretty damn awesome too. For once I'll be able to register for classes on time!

October 17th- I got my ass kicked by my midterm for my 1600-1800 British Literature class. Ouch. There was this section where I had to Identify quotes from the stuff we read. I'm almost scared to see my grade. Hopefully, I'll be alright. I also got my ass kicked in my writing workshop that day. I felt like I wrote at least one rather strong poem and well, shit got torn up. I am a frustrated writer trying to write something decent that I can feel happy about. Workshop was good and useful, but I did feel a bit sore. I don't think anyone really said if there were even moments in the poems that they liked. Then again, I think there's a lot more prose writers in my class than people who write poetry.

October 18th-  Classes went pretty well. I love my 19th Century British Poetry class. Computer and text is pretty great too. I also had my advising for English that day. Turns out, I just have 12 credits left in my major. Not too shabby! My expected graduation date is May of 2009! Oh and yeah, I decided to drop my James Joyce class because the professor was mediocre and I didn't feel prepared for the class because I haven't taken my critical theory class yet.

My parents came down to college park that evening and we did chinese for dinner. They came down to take me to see one of my all time favorite bands and to take me home. I saw the Wallflowers at the 9:30 Club.  The show was a late gig, hence why I needed my folks to go with me. Metro stops running at midnight and well, the show lasted until 1:30 am. It was really awesome despite some sound issues. I haven't seen that band since I was 12, so it was refreshing to see them and well I was only 5 feet away from Jakob Dylan (who is a hero of mine might I add!). During the show, I actually yelled out to Jakob that he's my hero and he smiled at me. The bad parts of the show was that the sound at one point (during "Closer 2 U") was really bad. Jakob asked for the crowd's opinion and I yelled for them to turn down the bass and the drums a bit haha. I guess it worked. The other bad moment was in the beginning. There were these annoying girls at the show who wouldn't shut the fuck up. I hate people like that. I mean it's cool to socialize at a show, but don't talk during all the fucking songs! I luckily was able to move away from them and towads the middle of the floor. There were a lot of people at the show to my surprise. As for  the set list, it was pretty decent. I got to hear a lot of my favorite songs from my favorite album Breach. I don't blame them for not playing "One Headlight" though I'd be a liar to say I didn't want to hear it. That song does mean a lot to me. Also, some of the songs felt strange without the B-3 Hammond. I hope Rami comes back to the band someday or that they find a good replacement. Anyway, here is the setlist from that night:

After the show, I went home to Frostburg for the weekend. On the way home, we stopped at Denny's which was rad. I didn't get home until 5 am I think. I just remember going to bed at 6 am, thinking "It's still so dark outside!"

October 19th- Friday was decent. I woke up at Noon. I went to the DMV to get my learner's permit renewed and found out that I needed my birth certificate and some other documentation to renew. Apparently they changed the law last year or something about renewing your stuff. LAME! I delivered this letter I wrote to Parris. I was too busy during the week to mail it so I figured it would be best to just put it in his mailbox. My 12 page letter must've worked. (I wrote this honest letter back on October 14th) While I was at the grocery store with my mom, my dad called my phone and was like "Parris is here at the house..." He didn't stick around though, but that was fine. I was told that he'd stop by later or whatever. For those who are wondering what the hell is going on, well back in September, Parris and I had a moment that was weird... sorta weird. Let's just say that I got partially laid. I've decided that it was actually my first time, but that's neither here nor there. It only lasted for a minute because I was in pain (sorry for the graphic detail). Anyway, Parris and I stopped talking to each other since that moment happened back in September. I felt it was time to clear the air so I did with my letter a month after the fact. I guess my letter was moving enough that he's decided that we're back on good terms. Hurray for that!

Anyway, I get back from the grocery store and have dinner with my parents. I'm trying to remember when my friend Nathan stopped over, but it was great seeing him. He might come down to DC this weekend and see She Wants Revenge with me. I really hope that he can.  So later on that evening, I walked over to Parris' house, but he was out. No issues with that. Just for fun, I went to Dante's and saw my friend Eric Hansen's band perform. There was a cover charge, but I got in for free! Woot. Early in the night, Eric dedicated a few Ryan Adams songs to me. He dedicated "Come Pick Me Up" by Ryan Adams because that's the song he played the night I met him back in May. Back in may, after he did that song, I introduced myself and since then, I've been friends with him and his girlfriend Mandy. While at the show, I ran into my friend Ian which was awesome. He's a super talented musician as well. The kid used to play with Sarah Barillas and Maroon 5. He might be moving back to LA sometime next year. Also while at the show, I ran into some people from my summer job. Hopefully, I'll be working there again in January. I ran into my two of my friends from high school. Royal and Gibb are twin brothers who were on newspaper with me in high school. I found out that Royal loves the wallflowers and was like "Oh man if I knew that they were touring, I would've gone to the show and met up with you..." I've known him since 2000 and yet had no clue that we shared the same love for that sort of music. Life has interesting surprises I swear.

October 20th- I got up late that morning, which made me somewhat later for a few other things. I got my permit renewed. But I still hate the DMV, then again who doesn't? After that, I got my hair cut. I was late for my appointment but luckily, Stephanie, my kick ass awesome stylist, was still able to see me. It's true- best way to feel totally awesome for a girl is to get your hair cut and eye brows waxed. I stayed with my shaggy style. I love the cut. It's really awesome. That afternoon, I walked over to Parris' house. He was there and we had a talk and things are good. It seems like we both missed each other. and I'm happy to say that I'm at the point where yes I still get romantic feelings but I'm able to fight them off. In my letter, I said that I was ready to be just friends like he originally intended. I am ready to be serious about it and I'm proud that I've found that sort of maturity inside myself.

After hanging out for a little bit, I went back to my house and did some reading homework. I'm addicted to Cathy's Book which is a book I'm reading for my computer and text class, in which I'm learning about multi-media storying telling. A little later, my mom dropped me off at Draft Zone so I could get some lunch. My sister and mother were on their way up to Garrett County for my sister's drs appointment. Being at Draft zone was good. They have such good food. I got their kids burger because the regular one is fucking huge. I saw some friends at the bar and I met this dude who was wearing a Danzig T-shirt! Turns out he was going to the same gig as me! He was up for Frosburg State's homecoming, which is always fun. Homecoming was part of the reason why I was home, plus I wanted to see the beautiful trees. The leaves are just amazing in Frostburg, lots of good fall colours. I walked home around 7 pm. Yeah I hung out at the bar for 4 hours haha. My mom and sister weren't back until 8 pm. Parris was at the house talking to my dad when I got home. I bought home a german beer for dinner. Parris and I split it because well, I didn't find it as tasty as I was hoping. I just wanted to try something truly Oktober fest authentic. As for dinner, it was great. Every year in October, my family and I do a german dinner. Gotta love our heritage! After dinner, Parris and I watched Wings of Desire. It was a pretty good evening to say the least.

October 21st- I went to church with my mom, which was really good. It was really nice to see my pastor. My mom and I did lunch after church at this cafe in town. They have the best biscotti I swear. Sunday afternoon was a bit quiet. I went shopping with my mom. Nothing major, but it was good. Meredith, my other best friend from high school, came over for dinner. I told her that we were having lamb and that i'd like to see her...looks like that did the trick!

After helping my mom for a while with dinner, I went upstairs and did some more reading. I heard a knock at my bedroom door. I figured it was my dad or Meredith telling me dinner was ready. I said "yeah?" and the person said in a funny voice "Honey?" Meredith does wacky voices sometimes, she can be really goofy. I said, "Yeah Meredith come in." The door opens and Parris says to me, "Who's Meredith?" I was reading my book and didn't realize it was him until heard his voice haha. He stopped by to say good bye to me and well to have dinner of course :) which was pretty awesome. I was suppose to leave sunday night, but didn't. My mom decided to take me back on Monday. Anyway, dinner was really awesome. Lamb is so good when it's grilled. My father is a wizz with a charcoal grill. After dinner, everyone started watching Monsters Inc. together. It was on Disney Chanel. Meredith had to go so I said goodbye to her. Sarah, my sister, went upstairs. It was just my parents, parris and myself watching the rest of the movie. It was pretty good I must admit. Super cute and well, it was sad in parts. It also had some pretty great humor though. After the movie was over, it was like only 9 pm. My mom went to bed. My dad was still up, so he watched A Life Less Ordinary with Parris and me. Neither of them had seen the movie before. and well, Parris and I are total geeks for Danny Boyle's films. It's hard to believe this movie is now like 10 years old. I forgot how darkly humorous it is and was surprised how great the soundtrack still holds up. Parris seemed to have enjoyed it. After the film was over, he gave me this huge hug and left. Before going to bed, I finished packing my stuff and getting ready to leave early in the morning.

October 22nd- I got up at 4:30 am to leave Frostburg to go back to College Park. My mom had a meeting down that way which is why she decided to just take me along with her and drop me off and then go to her meeting. It makes sense. The car trip down wasn't too bad. I slept off and on. I had breakfast in the car with my mom which was rad. I got to my dorm around 8 am. Mom helped me carry stuff into my room and then she left for her meeting. As for me, I layed down for a few hours and got a little extra sleep. I got up around noon and worked on homework. I was trying to finish the homework for my leadership class. I got a little behind on that stuff. Unfortunately, I was bad and skipped my 1600-1800 Brit Lit class again. (I missed class a lot back in late september because of being sick. luckily attendance isn't too huge of a deal in the class except that you can get a little lost at times.) I did go to my Leadership class and had an interesting discussion. I spent the rest of my evening, finishing Cathy's Book. Aside from doing that, all I remember is going to bed at 2 am.

I'm going to stop this entry here, because I've written a lot. I still am going to do a post about last night. Yes I did get to see Danzig and it was fucking amazing. Perhaps, I'll do that tonight or tomorrow or something! It's a story worth telling. So until then, stayed tune.
