Ten years and hundreds of bands later...

I know I need to do a real update, and trust me, the next two entries are for that. I've been so busy with work and life. When one is busy, time moves pretty fast, which is weird, because whenever I'm bored, it moves so slow.

Okay enough of that, now for the purpose of this entry...

Today, well tonight, marks the TEN year anniversary of attending my first rock concert.

Now some of you might not know, but my first concert was a hip hop gig. I saw Kriss Cross when I was 8 years old. My mom got me tickets as a birthday gift and took my sister and I to see them in Hagerstown, Maryland at the Maryland Theatre. This gig happened back on August 8th or 12th (something like that) back in 1993.

As for today's anniversary, it marks my first rock show. For my 12th birthday, my parents got me tickets to see The Wallflowers and the Counting Crows. The band That Dog were opening act. The show took place on August 1, 1997 which was a Friday night. It happened at the legendary Merriweather Post Pavilion. (My father saw Hendrix at Merriweather for 5 bucks back in 1968 when he was only 16 years old!)

The whole reason we were there was because I looooooved the Wallflowers obsessively as a kid. I still love them a lot to this very day actually. I remember back in May, I was in the car with my family and on the radio we heard how the Wallflowers were going on tour. I said "Oh my god! I must see them. Please mom!!!!" She knew how much they meant to me. The Wallflowers were the band that made seriously interested in music. Not just that, but their music pulled me through a rough year of middle school.  So going to see them was like a victory for me.

The Wallflowers' set was awesome as far as I can remember.  I also remember watching the Counting Crows with my father. They were pretty good too. The cool thing about that night was that it was Adam Durantz's (of the Counting Crows) birthday and his bandmates and crew came out with this huge cake and some guy dressed as a crow. pretty clever stuff.

I tried finding my journal from back then. I know it's packed somewhere, but I did write an entry about the concert. Perhaps, I'll find it very soon and I'll post it as a part of this entry. I just can't believe today marks the anniversary of my first rock concert ever and my second concert. Within those past ten years, I've seen more bands than I have ever dreamed of. It's quite breath taking to realize this.

Some of my favorite Wallflowers singles: *note- the only video listed that was around back when I saw them was One Headlight...I've yet to see them live since.
