Ficlets: from the 100 prompts (080-081)

080 - Why?

“Why?”

That had been a question she hadn’t been ready for. But she had always had a prompt brain, ready to answer any questions with sound and powerful arguments.

As Hilda stepped away from the window and turned to regard the man kneeling on the tiles, the ring on her hand reflected and magnified the light and blinded the warrior, who was forced to look away.

“Because I say so. Now be gone and don’t dare come back empty-handed.”

The man left, taking with him all the questions. It had started, at last. From now on, it’d all be answers.

081 - How?

He couldn’t believe his eyes. But the armor was on his body, stubbornly resisting doubt. He was now the God Warrior of Phecda, and his Lady called him to her service, even if she wasn’t the woman he remembered.

He repeated it under his breath as he took positions and waited for the first Saint to appear. He was a God Warrior. He, but how…?

With a shake of his head, Thor sent his rebel qualms away. It wasn’t the how that mattered, not even the why. Only the “for whom” counted. The princess and Asgard didn’t deserve his doubts.
