Ficlets: from the 100 prompts (076)

title (076) who?
word count ~ 400 (*sigh* there went my "short" promise)
who Athena and Ares
disclaimer Bear with me, this boring ficlet is proof that I'm no Kurumada. Maybe, if I were like Toei I could distribute it somehow, but I doubt it.

076 - Who?

- Who?
- Ares, I said I’m Ares - god of savage War.
- Name doesn’t ring any bells.

The Aries Gold Saint sat back on his chair and looked at Taurus, who was busy eating some grapes with cheese. When the second man shrugged without even looking up, the visitor left fuming. What a disgrace. Back in his own lair, he called Athena.

- Have you visited your warriors lately, dear?
- All the way down the stairs, you mean? No way, too far.
- I see. Well, thing is, they don’t seem to know who I am.
- What do you mean?
- I mean, I visited Sanctuary earlier today. Do you know what did your Gold Saints do? Nothing! For Zeus’ sake, shouldn’t they raise up in your defense or something?
- Well, it’s not like you meant me any harm. Right, brother?
- Of course not, sweetcake. I simply wanted to go up and have a chat with you, about war and those things you and I enjoy. But that’s not the point. There are forms that should be kept. A proper way of doing things. And having your Saints lazing around gives us all a bad image.
- Oh, I suspect they’ll get the hang of it with time. This is after all just the first batch.
- You mean you plan to have more of these… these mortals hanging around?
- Yes, of course. See, they die too soon and it’s cheaper to get new ones than to mend the ones that go bad.
- Then, more of a reason to do something about it. What kind of impression are the other divine pantheons going to get?

Athena took her feet out of the bucket. Aphrodite said washing them with cow milk every night made them soft and pretty, but to her it all seemed a huge waste of time. Sighing, she dried them in turn while still talking to her brother telepathically.

- Any suggestions, Ares?
- We need something to keep them on their toes. Something they’ll consider important, crucial actually! What if…?

Athena assented distractedly while listening to Ares' plan. Maybe honey would be better for her feet? Or that flower paste Diana used?

- But no actual killing or destroying, right Ares? You know how much those things annoy dad.
- Nothing major, and you were planning on replacing the mortals anyway...

And so was that the Cycle of Wars was started.
