The group that ambled through the swanky hotel's revolving door was the same group
Diana was attempting to pull herself away from. The hospital's fundraiser had been a great success which meant that everyone had had more than enough reason to drink much more than they should. As the party was ending it meant that the crowd had to find somewhere else to continue their revelry, to which Diana had to decline.
"Oh no, no, no, no, no." The brunette extracted herself with a laugh from the arms of her blonde coworker, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "You guys go, have fun." There was a collective groan from the group to which she did her best to silence with kisses pressed to each cheek. "The drunk texts that will be coming in tonight are so going to be worth it." Laughter followed after her as she broke away, heels clicking against the sidewalk as she bid the group good night one last time.
It wasn't until she was a block away from her brownstone that there was an all too familiar feeling creeping up her spine; a sensation that hopped and skipped up her vertebrae and caused the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. It had been years since this sensation had surfaced. It hadn't since she left Chance Harbor... but there it was.
At the top of the stoop she worked on casually pulling her keys from her clutch, tucking the purse under her arm with a small glance up and down the sidewalk before letting herself into the building. The door was closed a little harder than she had intended, the sound reverberating around her causing her to wince. The slow trek up the stairs was exactly that- slow. Half of her was waiting for the building's door to be thrown open but with every climb upwards that it didn't happen it calmed her, if only just a little.
There was no time wasted in slipping into her apartment, shedding her shoes the moment the door closed behind her. In the dark she set her purse aside on the hallway table before turning on the lamp.
