via Perth for Newtonmore and Aviemore. (There are bus and rail services. Journey times just over two hours.) En route, Perthshire’s woods gradually give way to the open moorland and heathery hill-slopes of the central Highlands, with the Pass of Drumochter, the highest point reached by rail in the UK, leading down to the valley of the River Spey, with superb views of the Cairngorm Mountains to the south-east. Break your journey at the Highland folk Museum at Newtonmore, before continuing for overnight at Aviemore. Aviemore is a gateway for the Cairngorms National Park with a huge choice of leisure activities. Regular bus services throughout the day, year round (No 31 Cairngorm Ski Area) link the resort to CairnGorm Mountain (that is, the base station for the funicular railway). The linking buses run as a ‘hail and ride system’ from Inverdruie, so you can also get off anywhere and explore the network of paths and walks around, for example, Loch Morlick. Break your journey at the little resort town of Pitlochry, to visit the Blair Athol Distillery at the southern edge of the town.

Continue south and east, through Glencoe for Crianlarich, Lochearnhead and the northern boundaries of the Trossachs, now in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Take the A84/A821 west at Kilmahog, stop at the carpark for a walk to the summit of Ben An by Loch Achray. Continue over the Duke’s Pass in the eart of the Trossachs, taking the A821 south. Beyond Aberfoyle, turn west to reach Drymen - superb view of Loch Lomond from a little park in the centre.
или
Follow the A823 north then the A822 to Crieff, get onto the A85 west towards Lochearnhead. Go onto the A84 towards Callander. Just before Callander there's the A821 on your right, follow this over the Dukes Pass and it brings you out in Aberfoyle.
или
take the east bank road, via Drymen and Balmaha, with plenty of places to stop off and take a walk by the wooded shores. The road stops at Rowardennan - though you can continue on foot to enjoy the loch and mountain views. Retrace the shore-side route as far as Drymen and take the A811 eastwards, turning north on the A81 for the Trossachs. This is the part of Scotland where tourism first began at the dawning of the Romantic Age before the end of the 18th century, when Highland scenery was seen in a new way - as exciting, daring and filled with tales of adventure. The Highland clansmen themselves were likewise seen as adventurous and daring - and the most famous and romantic of them was Rob Roy Macgregor. Though a real-life Highlander (d.1734) his exploits became legendary. Even Sir Walter Scott wrote a novel about him. Beyond Aberfoyle (on A81) continue west past Loch Ard to Stronachlachar on Loch Katrine. Rob Roy was born by the loch, a little further west. Take the road west through Glen Arklet, where Rob courted his wife Mary of Comar, and drop down to the shores of Loch Lomond at Inversnaid. Even this little place has its romantic overtones: it is the title of a romantic poem by the English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, who was inspired by the waterfall here. Return east to Aberfoyle, going north over the Duke’s Pass (the A821) for Callander.
или
through the pass of Brander and by Loch Awe (Scotland’s longest) to reach Inveraray, a town built by the 3rd Duke of Argyll in the mid 18th century. Inveraray Castle is close by

Follow the A83 down the side of Loch Fyne, a great place for sailing. When the weather is nice, the west coast is my favorite place in the world. Get to Lochgilphead and take the B481 alongside the Crinan Canal to Crinan. Fantastic place for seafood. It's always fun to watch people at the locks on the canal trying to manoeuvre sailing boats into place! Take the B8025 into the A816 heading north and stop at Arduaine for the view.
follow the A85 onto the A828. This is where the fun really begins - this is a fantastic road with more amazing scenery. At Balachullish take the A82 north.

Fife (‘the Kingdom of’). In a day you could easily explore little fishing villages like Anstruther, Elie, St Monans. They are very pretty with lovely vernacular architecture and you can do a bit of the coastal walk there with great views back across the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh.

Loch Katrine Острова:
- Skye (80 mi (a 2-hour drive) from Inverness to Skye),
--- The drive to the island is peaceful, full of raw landscapes and big, open horizons. Stop at Eilean Donan Castle on the way; go in, walk around, and take a few photos. This castle set on an island among three lochs is the stuff postcards are made of. Explore Skye; Glen Brittle is the perfect place to enjoy mountain scenery, and Armadale is a good place to go craft shopping. End up in Portree for dinner and the night.
--- Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most beautiful in Scotland, thanks to its dramatic location on an islet. The structure is all wood and stone; take time and go inside.
Hardened lava flow along the Trotternish Peninsula created a curious pinnacle called Old Man of Storr. Don't miss nearby Kilt Rock, shaped like (you guessed it) a kilt. Farther north, the Quiraing offers more unusual formations.
Take a drive in Glen Brittle to see the steep Cuillin Mountains.
Dunvegan Castle, 22 mi/25 km west of Portree, was the seat of Clan Macleod.
