Okay, I just saw the movie Milk; so while that's obviously why I'm writing this, I'm asking seriously, because it has always bugged my that people hate and condemn each other and it will continue to bug me ( Read more... )

I wholeheartedly agree. Just make sure that you make the distinction that only a certain portion of "Christians" believe in this manner. I can't tell you exactly how much this portion is, but I know that it is not all of them, or even anywhere near all of them. I call myself a Christian (Though I admit I am not a typical one), and I make it a point to condemn and judge no one. This is a direct order from the person for whom the religion is named. But people have the annoying tendancy to ignore the parts of the religion that don't allow them to kill and punish other people on a whim. This is a blight on all major world religions, and is one of the sources of the fact that there are so atheists in the world. People view religion as an excuse for violence, not a reason to spread peace, and this is probably the worst thing about humanity.

If the rest of the Christians actually bothered to read the words of the person who founded their religion, they would realize that he not only said nothing about homosexuality, but he made it a point to say that no person has the right to judge anyone.

To paraphrase: "Don't judge other people, because you will be held to the same standard of judgement that you hold other people to. Remove the plank from your own eye so that you can see clearly to remove the speck of dust from someone else's eye."

There are many people who actually follow this, but they are not the ones we hear about or hear from. Because of this, it becomes important to make a distinction between these people and the hatemongers. To fail to do this by clumping all "Christians" into one category would be nearly as reprehensible as the violent acts perpetrated in the name of God or Jesus. I am glad that you made this distinction when you called those people "Fundamentalist Christians", because although it would not be fair to say that every person who is a FC has committed a hateful act against their fellow humans (nor has every FC supported these acts), the act of supporting such acts is as inhuman as committing the acts themselves.

Although it is easier and clearer to comdemn ideas, but this is not anywhere near as satisfying as venting one's anger in the direction of a person who personifies these ideas. In that, I support you and agree with you wholeheartedly, as I said before.

=)
