OK, so this has kind of been creeping me out for the past few days. I wasn't even around when this happened, but it's still kind of a scary story. Be warned if you're easily scared by possible supernatural activities (like me:P)
Ever since I started working at
Uwajimaya a little over a year ago, I've heard stories that the store (more specifically, the warehouse) was haunted. I'd heard a couple of stories about strange incidents, but I didn't pay them much mind, since I've never been entirely sure whether I actually believe in ghosts. I did experience one odd happening earlier this year (there was a fishy smell with no known source travelling around my department, which is on the complete opposite side of the store from the seafood department), but no real hard evidence that was enough to convince me.
Then last week, when I came in after a couple of days off, I heard about something really creepy that had happened while I was off. One evening, an employee who works as the restaurant in the same building as ours was outside having a cigarette. It was raining hard that night, but the employee noticed that one of the concrete columns had a dry spot on it. Upon closer inspection, there appeared to be a face on the dry spot. The employee told some more people from the restaurant and our store to come look, and one of our employees took a picture with her cellphone. Most of them were scared to see what would happen if they touched it, but they convinced one guy to try it. When he did, the face disappeared and water started streaming down the dry spot. Weeeeird. Below is the picture that the employee took with her phone:
Look at how the outline of the head extends beyond the column. I am soooo creeped out by this picture, I'm almost scared to post it. I guess I've watched too many horror movies and I'm worried that bad stuff will start happening to me :P
After this happened, obviously more ghost talk started up around the store again. I heard a couple of scary stories that I either hadn't heard before or just hadn't paid much attention to when I first heard them. A couple years ago, there was an employee turning off the lights for the night in the warehouse. She heard a loud noise and ran out, and when they checked the security tapes the next day, they saw that what happened was that the lights flickered, a black shadow zipped across the screen, and then a box fell off a pallet. And it wasn't a box teetering on the edge or something, it was in the middle and it slid off like it had been pushed. My manager recalled that it seemed to be around the same time of year as now, so we're wondering whether both the face incident and the box one occurred on the same date. Could it be the anniversary of a death or something? There's still footage of this in the store computers, and I'm debating whether I actually want to watch it....it'll just freak me out more. I also heard that one night there was a manager in the store alone at night and heard a noise so loud it sounded like an aisle had fallen over....but nothing had happened. My manager knows a guy who works in the city archives, so she wants him to look into the history of the building to see if anything significant ever happened at the store.
I'm probably going to have trouble falling asleep again tonight after posting this :P
