Scenes Thursdays:
When Wal-Mart put in the world’s largest kids’ ball pit, Johnny was thrilled, but it made my breath catch in my throat.
Never mind the fact that as a doctor, she feared what germs and diseases lurked in such places. It was the other things that lived there. As a child, she had spent time in such a ball pit while her mother bought a used car, and the things that had happened to her, and the creatures she met, had molded her forever.
“We can go,” she said to Johnny, who was bouncing up and down impatiently. “But I’m going in with you. I have a score to settle.”
