SAILOR MOON CLASSIC DISCUSSION [dub]
Heyyo~ I'm watching Sailor Moon (DUBBED SUCK IT) and thought this would be a fun series of discussion posts. I REALLY WANT TO HEAR EVERYONE'S OPINIONS because i just love sailormoon so much it seems ridiculous at times. (I'm sure most of you can relate!!!)
REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY DISCUSSION RELATING TO THE DUB. WE WILL TALK ABOUT THE OTHERS LATERRRR <3333
Things to discuss:
- (least & most) favourite dub characters (hero, villain, etc if you like that many - I know a lot don't)
- (least & most) favourite dub episode
- (least & most) favourite dub music
- (least & most) favourite dub CHANGES (this is a biggie)
- (least & most) favourite dub voice actors
Those are, of course, just some ideas :)
To start off, here are some of my opinions.
- I don't really mind any of the dub voices. Of the main characters, at least. I know a lot of people rag on Molly but... Look my in the eye and say her scream when Nephlite dies didn't TOUCH YOU. And when you look at me, you'll see tears welling up in my eyes.
- I like that Zoisite is a chick. Not because of homo issues, but because ZOISITE LOOKS LIKE A DAMN CHICK. And yeah, girl power in the Generals or whatever. Despite the va showing up multiple times, I thin kshe did a great job with all of them.
- Speaking of Molly, the last two episodes with Nephlite are just so heart breaking. When Serena turns in to the Princess? LOVE IT. Yeah, the last battle is edited to shit, but come on - WHO DOESN'T LOVE CARRY ONNNNN.
- I love the first Sailor Moon va. Which most people usually forget. She used to bug me, but after getting more knowledge of the JPN version, I can appreciate her. Tracy is perfect for an American Usagi. Even though there's a lot of dumb slang, but oh well. You can't blame the voice actors.
- Speaking of voices, I'm OK with Luna. But not in the S movie. It pisses me right the fuck off in that one. But, I'm getting ahead of myself...
- PROBABLY THING THAT PISSES ME OFF NUMBER 1: when Princess whatever her name is gets possessed and Serena falls off the balconey. AND THEY JUST PLAY IT BACKWARD AND PRETEND IT NEVER HAPPENED??? Fuck off.
- There are a lot of dumb lines. I can't even get in to them all.
- I first watched Sailor Moon in 1995 when it was aired in Canada. I didn't have cable, so I only saw it on Global (then STV?). So, I don't think I saw any of the first season when it originally aired.
- The English voices fit the English soundtrack. I think S and SuperS sounded like a mess.
- Random things that piss me off: COCOA IS COFFEE. LEMONADE IS LIQUOR. DOUGHNUTS ARE SOMETHING I CANT REMEMBER BUT ARENT DOUGHNUTS. INCONSISTENT SAYINGS (not as bad as S & SuperS omggggggggg).
- Sailor Says is just a Canadian thing. It's pointless, but I understand why it's there. And it's funny how sometimes they contain removed footage.

Sorry if I spelt names wrong, dub and sub are all jumbled in my mind, and I don't talk (type) about characters unless they have merchandise kekeke.

Final verdict: I love the dub. It's what introduced me in to Sailormoon, and the manga/anime scene as a whole. I am from back in the day when you had to grab whatever you could find. While I like all the choices we have now, the market is over saturated with shitty titles (SHITTY WHITE PEOPLE TRYING TO BE ~*MANGAKA*~). Ranma Dragonball Slayers FIST BUMP SON.
I can appreciate it for what it is. To me, it's just another version of SM. Same as PGSM (which I also don't understand the hate for but w/e we'll talk about it later). Same as how I consider the manga and anime separate. This is the fandom that seems to keep on giving, and not in the way Square rapes the FF7 franchise.
