Ooh, a public post!
Yesterday was Killian's first birthday. We made it an entire year with no injuries, burns, or maiming (completely light hearted here). I've been a mom for a whole year. Wow. I made cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. I spelled out "Happy Birthday Killian!". We had a hard time deciding what to get him for his birthday, b/c he has so many toys and he doesn't even play with most of them. He didn't need any clothes either. So we got him something that he will enjoy longterm. We bought him a 5 gallon fish tank, and 3 fish. He LOVES aquariums, and he gets so excited when he sees them. He points and laughs at them all day. I ask him, "Where are your fish"? And he points at them and smiles. He likes to sit in front of the tank and watch them. I'm pleased with it.
Friday night was a romantic night. Brian's mom watched the baby and he took me to dinner. The plan was to go out to a club after dinner, but we decided to just go home instead to spend some alone time. It was worth it. I think once a week we should take the baby over to my mother in law and just spend time alone. Its really nice and it makes a huge difference. I get so tense about the baby and if he's even in the same house I can't be in a romantic mood.
My mother in law is getting weirder and weirder. She told me all these stories this past weekend that weren't true. Plus, she is getting in the habit of giving Killian forbidden snacks (aka things chocked with refined sugars and fat) and encouraging him to act out. She taught him to bang things and not to pick up after himself. *sigh* Brian will address it.
This was a good weekend. Bust has Tori Amos AND Bjork in it, Natl. Geographic has an article about Bollywood (with a yummy pic of Shahrukh Khan), AND, I have an Ikea catalog to flip through. I miss having an Ikea just 10 minutes from my dwelling. I need a new sofa (the one I have now is broken in half its so old) and maybe some sexy chairs.
I also have my GED test coming up on the 10th. I'm very nervous but excited, b/c that means I can finally get on with my life. I'm considering a degree in graphic design, b/c I've been involved with printed matter since my birth (quite literally). I remember my dad would come home from work, and the smell of ink would be around him like an invisible cloud. Every time someone handed him a business card, he would turn it first one way, then the other, checking the quality. I love ink, in all forms, and I would love to work for a printing (or publishing) company.
Killian learned to climb up on the couch today. No sign yet of him knowing how to get back down. lol
