Praise the Lord, the new nose spray I got from the docs appears to be helping already. I spent a goodly amount of time outside the house today (saw the movie and went out to eat) and I’m not suffering terribly. My suffering is down to minor annoyance throat scratchiness and just a little headache. :) God bless the allergy specialists and the inventor of that nose spray! Hopefully it keeps on working and doesn’t start to give me wonky side effects. *fingers crossed*
So, HP 7 pt 1… I liked it, but not as much as HBP. I kinda blame my having read the book first for this last pair of movies (DH pts 1 & 2). Not only have I been completely spoiled for the story, but I can’t help but compare and contrast the two, and that’s rather distracting while watching. Oh, well. Still, I liked the movie. It entertained me, it kept my attention, I laughed, I cried, etc. I thought some scenes were really well done, and missed some scenes that were left out.
*MOVIE SPOILERS BELOW*
Random HP 7 pt 1 thoughts:
- I loved how they did the Malfoy Manor scene. I enjoyed seeing Snape arrive by Apparition and thought the misty gate thing was pretty cool. And I thought the whole scene inside the manor was well done and well acted by all parties. Poor Charity Burbage! I loved Rickman’s subtle ambiguous acting in that scene.
- I thought Tom Felton did some real fine subtle acting, as well.
- Jason Isaacs chewed the scenery delightfully.
- I loved Bellatrix’s little pout after Voldemort told her that he must kill Harry Potter.
- I missed Dudley’s little redemptive scene
- I missed Grindelwald’s little redemptive scene where he pretends he never had the Elder Wand
- I couldn’t help but think “Hey, Harry was supposed to not taste so bad!” when they were drinking the Harry!Polyjuice Potion. But it was a funny scene, so it’s all good. LOL
- Loved the “Don’t look at me! I’m hideous!” line from Harry!Fleur. LOL XD
- I loved George and Fred in this movie! <3 Their sense of humor was awesome!
- I like how Hedwig went out protecting Harry instead of being in her cage. Still sad she snuffed it, though. I was hoping when Harry set her free, she’d get to live.
- Dobby’s death scene made me cry.
- The computer animation for Dobby and Kreacher was really well done. Too bad most of Kreacher’s story got cut and it was never explained in movie why he was helping Harry.
- Loved Dobby’s line about not wanting to kill Bellatrix, but only wanting to maim or seriously injure her. LOL, Dobby! XD
- I love to hate Umbridge, but I just love her cat Patronus with its little musical notes floating up. So frikkin’ cute! :3
- I love how they dropped all the anvils about the Death Eater/Nazi parallel. The anti-Muggle-born pamphlets and the “When Muggles Attack” book in Umbridge’s office were nice creepy touches. That Magic is Might statue was also suitably creepy and anvilicious.
- Steve Kloves really does ship H/Hr, doesn’t he? There seemed to be an awful lot of ship tease in this movie. It’s no wonder that H/Hr was my original trio ship of choice seeing as I saw movies 1 - 6 before reading all the books. Sometimes I wonder if R/Hr would have been my ship of choice from the start if I’d read the books first. Either way (H/Hr or R/Hr) it fits the Relationship Upgrade trope, which is one of my favorites, so I wonder…
- I loved Luna, as always. And I thought the guy who played Xenophilius was good in the role.
- I loved the whole Ministry scene. LOL at them having to flush themselves down the loo, and the actors who play the trio Polyjuiced were a hoot. I loved Mafalda!Hermione’s look of dread when she wound up alone in the elevator with Umbridge. LOL XD
- Did anyone else notice that Harry got his Jackie Chan moves on in the car chase scene? I’m pretty sure I saw Jackie Chan do something very similar to the running on top of the bus bit, in one of his movies.
- The H/Hr!Horcrux scene reminded me of Goldfinger, because they looked like that gold girl in the beginning of Goldfinger, but silver.
- I guess I’ve well and truly switched to the R/Hr ship, because the H/Hr scenes didn’t do all that much for me, this time. I used to eat up the ship tease for H/Hr. Oh, well.
- On that note, I liked the few shippy moments we got for R/Hr.
- I thought Bellatrix carving Mudblood into Hermione’s arm was a good creepy addition. Although at first I thought Bellatrix was biting Hermione, when she leaned over Hermione’s arm to carve! I was all “Is she biting her?!! What the hell?!”
- The Deluminator was cool. Loved that bit with Ron and the Deluminator light leading him back to Hermione (and Harry).
- The doe Patronus! It wasn’t as pretty as I pictured it in my head, but it was still pretty groovy.
- Did anyone else notice that Harry watched Snape walk around on the Marauder’s Map but not Ginny? I have to wonder if the H/Hr shipping Kloves seems to be doing came into play with Harry not watching Ginny. Or it could just be that it was a quick way to show that, yes, Snape has become Headmaster, just like the radio said.
- I thought the Locket Horcrux taunt and destruction scene was very well done.
- I thought the Gryffindor Sword in the lake scene was very well done too. Harry’s lucky he’s a wizard, though. I think a Muggle would have got hypothermia and died. Wizard’s must be hardier than Muggles, because they seem to be able to take more damage and harsher conditions than people would normally be able to do. Or it’s just unrealistic because it’s fiction and it can be.
- Speaking of unrealistic, those wizards must be really good at embalming, because Dumbledore looked pretty good for someone who’d been dead for many months. I would have thought there’d have been more decomp. It seems like in the books there was more decomp, if I remember correctly. Perhaps the movie folks decided they just wanted to spare us the site of decomp!Dumbledore. As a DD fan, I’m down with being spared that grizzly sight.
- What a cliff hanger they ended that movie on, eh? That would have killed me, if I hadn’t already read the books.
- I thought the trio actors did a real good acting job.
- My husband pointed out to me that Mundungus looked like a pimp in this movie. LOL! XD
- The guy who stopped the Hogwarts train looked just like General Zod, to me. Hubby agrees. LOL! XD
All right, that’s enough yakking from me about the movie, I think.
I look forward to HP 7 pt 2. *Crosses fingers that they didn’t mess up The Prince’s Tale!*
Once more, it’s getting late, and I’ll have to tend to my mailbox and groups tomorrow. I spent all of yesterday working on some fic stuff, so I didn’t tend to the mailbox and groups that day as planned, either. I meant to just spend the morning on fic stuff, but I got obsessed with hammering some things out and wound up spending the whole day on it. *^.^*
