My Top 5 Favorite Opening Credits
1) The Wire: Specifically the 4th opening. I love the song (esp. the 1st and 4th season versions) and the openings are very clever, I think. Instead of focusing on the actors/characters, they focus on what goes on in the city, or scenes from the drug trade, or the devices that the police use to try and catch the criminals.
2)Urusei Yatsura: Specifically the 5th opening "Rock the Planet". Partially, this makes to the number two spot for nostalgia and love of show (UY is one of my all time favorite animes, and it's main character Lum is my all time favorite anime character), but it's also a pretty darn cool opening.
3)Kaliedo Star:Specifically the 3rd opening "Tattoo Kiss". I love the catchy song the pretty, energetic visuals. Plus, this is one of my all time favorite animes, right up there with UY.
4)Victorian Romance Emma: Specifically the first opening. The music is so pretty and it's the opening to a anime that takes place in Victorian England! Squee! The main love interest is even named William! How could I not love this series and it's pretty opening?
5)The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Specifically Opening 1, er, I guess technically Opening 2 "Bouken Desho Desho?" I adore the song and the animation for this series is so pretty. Plus I love the series. It's a hoot.
Honorable mentions: Babar: The Babar cartoon series from the 80's was so darn cute and the opening has a lovely piano piece to go along with the cuteness. This is one of my favorite shows to this day. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Cool song and neat visuals. Plus, it's Buffy. Friends: Catchy theme song and fun visuals (they were very good at sinc-ing the clips with the music and picked cute clips to do it with). Plus, this is one of my all time favorite shows.Mobile Police Patlabor: Opening 4 "You Are the One". This is another awesome late 80's opening. One of my favorite shows of all time too. Yes, I'm biased towards my favorites. Catchy rockin' song and clever nice looking visuals. It's challenging for me to sing along with, though, because it's in a lower key (due to the male vocalist). Monk: Specifically the 2nd opening. Fun song and visuals.
