After watching Supernatural 11.10, a couple theories poked their heads up and said hello Laurel, could this be what's happening?
Under a cut for spoilers.
When Castiel said yes to Lucifer, I don't think he was in full control of himself. I think Amara had him under her power, and she wants Lucifer out of the cage because he can help her in her quest to get revenge on God. I'm sure Lucifer would love to have that revenge himself!
The other theory that came to me is that when Castiel said yes to Lucifer, it wasn't Castiel at all. Maybe when Amara touched Cas and he screamed, they switched bodies. Did you notice that after Cas (the body) disappeared, Amara stumbled a bit, like she was either weakened or disoriented? Could that be because Cas was disoriented to find himself in Amara's body? OOOOH. Again, Amara would be doing it to get Lucifer out of the cage.
I really liked Ambriel and was disappointed they killed her off. I get why they did it because they wanted to show Amara consuming an angel, but she was just the right amount of cute and slightly annoying. Oh well. :(
Is anyone else completely not surprised that Lucifer killed Rowena? Does anyone else wonder why SHE didn't see it coming? Prince of Lies? Hello?
I think it was a good time to kill off the character. The amount of power that she had was very uneven. At times, Rowena seemed powerful enough to get herself out of any jam, but she was easily overcome, and at other times, she showed much less power and it didn't make sense. That's the problem with writing witches who seem to come by their magic by TV rules - their power level is always uneven and questionable. You say if she can do this, why wasn't she able to easily escape when this happened? Because TV writers always make witches really powerful when it's convenient for the plot, and really weak when it's convenient for the plot, and we always furrow our brows and wonder why.
Anyway, I think it's very exciting that not only is Amara a threat, but now Lucifer as well. I have NO IDEA how Sam and Dean are going to get out of this one. I also hope that all of this doesn't mean that Castiel is dead. It would upset me greatly, but with Lucifer occupying Jimmy's body, it's certainly possible. If Cas was still in there when Lucifer came in, Cas could have been smited out of existence. I hope not!!!
