New Year's is still more than an hour away here, but I'm saying it in advance so I don't have to post again, haha. Here's the story I wrote for
yuletide:
Decapitation Will Kill Almost Anything (2540 words) by
SailorhathorChapters: 1/1
Fandom:
Miracles (TV)Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Paul Callan, Alva Keel, Evelyn Santos, Original Characters
Additional Tags: Supernatural Elements
Summary:
Paul and Alva play a game of Define that Supernatural Term while waiting to be killed by a monster. You know, their idea of normal.
I'll post it to my own journal once I get the title graphic made.
I've been into paranormal stuff since I was a kid, so I have a few books on the subject, and have also read up on lots of stuff on the net for the
paranormal25 tables. The various terms that I've learned were the major inspiration for this fanfic. :D I thought, what could Paul and Alva be doing while going over supernatural terms that would make things a little more interesting? Just like Paul questions in the story, I also wonder who sat around thinking up names for all the psychic powers, ghouls, and beasties, and how they got everyone else to accept and use those terms. Surely it was an interesting process! (?)
In case you have no idea who Wesley Eure is, he is an actor who starred in the 1970s TV show "Land of the Lost," one of the best science fiction shows you probably haven't seen (unless you're my age and from the United States). I watched it when it was in repeats in the late 70s and early 80s. If you haven't seen it, and you like classic science fiction with some fantasy thrown in, I urge you to watch the DVDs (don't start with season 3 though; the show went through many changes and sucked in just as many ways). The basic idea is the Marshall family went over a waterfall in their raft and wound up in a different dimension which seems to be on another planet, a planet populated with dinosaurs, Neanderthal-ish people, and hostile lizard men who want to eat them called Sleestax. The place also has weird but fascinating things like Pylons (golden structures that seem to be bigger on the inside than the outside) with crystal matrix tables in them, crystals that control the weather and the rising of the fucking sun. Everything combines to make a strange world of wonder, and it's just about my favorite show of all time depending on my mood.
Anyway, Wesley asked fans of the show to make New Year's cards on his Facebook. This is mine! (I spent a few hours making this thing, erasing the backgrounds around the heads of dinosaurs and such and sticking them on the bodies of the Village People. XD)
Everybody who made a card gets an autographed photo of three of the cast members, yaaay! Can't wait to get mine! ^__^
From these people XD:
HAHAHA, this is Wesley (Will), Cathy Coleman (Holly), and Phil Paley (Cha-ka) how they look now, taking a funny pic that looks like they're all in bed with a Sleestak skull and a Sleestak. XD So funny! I love these people.
My original characters are running around in my head again. This year, I've talked about wanting to publish a book about some of them. I'm still working toward that goal. So far, I've written most of the outline for the first SEPI book and have been working on fleshing out some of the characters who needed changes made to their lives to fit them in with the new setting. Today I ran a couple errands where I walked to the places I needed to go, something I often do on purpose not only because I want to get the errands done without bothering anyone to take me around, but also so I can think and listen to music. Certain characters will "claim" songs as I listen to them, songs they feel relate to their situations in the stories. It helps them reveal themselves to me, as well as bring out details of what happens to them and how they feel about each other. Does anyone else make music a huge part of their writing process? (Or rather, go along for the ride as music makes itself a huge part of their writing process?)
I'll probably be rereading some of the things I've been working on for this book tonight, and putting more details into the outline. :) Can't think of a better way to bring in the New Year.
