I have some friends on my flist who are hurting and I just wanted to send out hugs and love to them. First, there's thinlizzy2, who is dealing personally with the disaster in Japan (I hope you feel safe enough to go home soon, hon), and then there are all the people grieving over the passing of elanurel after an 18-month battle with uterine cancer. I wish I had had a chance to get to know her better. Only a month after we friended each other, she got the diagnosis. From the time that I did have with her, I got to know her spirit and determination, and I was hoping she'd be able to beat the odds along with everyone else who knew her. Cancer sucks, end of story. I wish I'd gotten the chance to meet her at a con and fangirl with her. She was very loved. :)
This is the second person I've known through fandom who has died (the first being Muzzy), and the outpouring of love and emotion is just as heart-wrenching and touching as it was then. The major difference there is I actually got to meet Muzzy and hang with him for an entire mini-con weekend.
Oh, and if you haven't heard, you can auction off stuff at help_japan to, well, help Japan.
