Happy Birthday
moonlitxmelody! How many birthday spankings do you get today? It's 34, isn't it? *evil grin*
Watched Skeet on the first episode of "Law and Order: Los Angeles," and thought I would give my thoughts about it. That and the ep of "L&O: SVU" before it, since Skeet was in that too.
A few spoilers below.
First, they had Skeet on L&O: SVU with his name that I still think sounds ridiculous, Rex Winters. Everytime I hear that name, I expect him to put his hands on his hips and go, "Huzzah!" It's just such a silly film noir detective kind of name. (Which has nothing to do with the Huzzah thing, it's just a really over the top name to me in multiple ways.) Rex Dart, Eskimo spy!
Anyway, I actually liked the ep of L&O: SVU better than the ep of LOLA. I usually can't stand Jennifer Love Hewitt, but they toned down her usual ten pounds of mascara and the acting style that she uses on "Ghost Whisperer" so I could deal with her. I don't know what it is about her on GW, I just can't stand her. Which sucks, since I watched an ep of the show several years ago and actually thought the writing was halfway decent. I may give it another chance on DVD someday. That's what Netflix is for, right?
The story was okay, although what they found in the storage locker was a bit over the top. Can you even get electricity in a storage locker? The guy pays for that? The whole story, once it came out, was kinda hard to buy. But it was a decent episode. Nothing I would be interested in watching every week, though.
Now, LOLA. Meh. I'm not a fan of cop shows for the most part. I wouldn't be watching this one if it wasn't for Skeet being on it. But at least it's not as horrible as "Jericho" was.
I do wish Skeet would do another cool show that I could love, though. Like "Miracles." Those are the kinds of stories I really love. Even that medical show would have held my attention well.
I wonder if it's weird for an actor to be acting when he's young, and playing someone else's teen son, and then to still be an actor when he's 40, and now playing the father of a teenager. That's a bit surreal for me to see, is it surreal to play it?
I liked when the photographer was basically hitting on ol' Rex, asking if she could photograph him. Yes, he is handsome and photogenic, isn't he? ^_^
It will be interesting to see what Rex's family is like when they introduce them.
For Skeet's sake, I hope the show does well; I know it can't make him happy to see multiple shows that he's been in get cancelled. But secretly, I'll be hoping that he finds another paranormal show to be in that will be a hit. ^_^
Oh, and I like his hair better straightened. It looks okay with its natural curl, but the Paul Callan look... WUFF.
And now, more babbling about Corin Nemec (his roles in "Sea Beast" and "Ted Bundy: A Legacy of Evil") and "Supernatural."
I've been updating myself on Corin movies that I haven't seen yet. So, spoilers for those and for a little SPN speculation on the Campbells.
"SEA BEAST": A movie about... a sea beast. GAAAASP. Corin plays a boat captain in a town where people are being picked off one by one by a monster angler fish thing. Although this got a little dull as there wasn't much for the characters to do besides get killed, it was still a decent monster movie, especially with Corin in it. All the people who acted like assholes bit the big one, yay! I was pleasantly surprised to find that Miriam "Emma from Degrassi" McDonald played his teenage daughter. And Corin looks pretty hot with that extra hair. I wish he'd keep it this length all the time.
I also love the setting. I've mentioned before that I love boating and fishing and the water (even though I still can't swim) and there was a lot of that in this movie.
My favorite moment was when Will (Corin) and a marine biologist find a guy dead, who had been sprayed with paralyzing monster toxin from the killer fish. Will touches his neck to check for a pulse. Then the marine biologist goes, "He was killed by the toxin!" and Will frantically starts wiping his hand off on his jacket. XD It was one of those unintentionally funny moments you find in a movie (or maybe Corin did it on purpose; he does enjoy doing comedy when he can).
There are lots of nice monster-killing scenes as well, as the mama monster has babies, so there are many of them running around. People have to find creative ways to kill them, which is fun.
I didn't get why they had Dan get scratched on the hand if he was just going to get killed. It seemed like they were setting something up with that wound, like a moment where he'd be taken over by the monster or, I don't know, just something, but then nothing. Are they setting up a sequel anyway? I don't think we ever saw Dan's body.
It's one of those movies that's great to watch with a bunch of smartass friends and a bowl of popcorn, and poke fun at it.
"BUNDY: A LEGACY OF EVIL": When I heard that Corin had played serial killer Ted Bundy in a movie, my reaction was quite... I don't even know how to put it into words. It just seemed weird? The actual movie was even odder. It seems like the film was trying really hard to show how pathetic Bundy was inbetween really bloody, graphic scenes of him terrorizing and murdering women. The combination was unsettling, not in a good way. I don't know if I could watch it again unless I was in a really weird mood.
Thing is, I find reading about serial killers to be interesting. And I have read about Bundy and seen some of the footage of him from all those years ago. The guy still has a harem of women who think he was so handsome and charming, and I've never been on that train. His looks do nothing for me, and I always thought he was just an arrogant and pathetic man who brutally killed who knows how many women. It's obvious that Corin must've studied the films of Bundy, because he Ted Bundies all over this movie - the mannerisms, the walk, the talk, he becomes Bundy so deeply that it creeped me the fuck out. He becomes so brutal, arrogant, pathetic, and transparently charming that it made me shudder. Seeing that, I realize that Corin is even more underrated an actor than even I thought. Go Corin!
The problem is, though, that it didn't make for an entertaining movie. It just left me feeling all unsettled and creeped out in a bad way. Plus, there's also the fact that the actual events took place in the 70's and early 80's in some of the worst clothes known to mankind. I mean, seriously, who ever told Bundy he looked good in those bad Ward Cleaver meets beatnik duds? I can't even look at most screencaps of Corin from this movie because I just want to burst out laughing at the awful suits and goofy turtle necks. There was also some pretty annoying music in it too. Also couldn't believe that they glossed over the fact that Bundy married some chick during his trial and had a daughter with her! That part always blew my mind.
Corin put in a wonderful performance, but, just not a good movie.
SPECULATION ON THE CAMPBELLS: First, I have to say after viewing Corin in other stuff that I don't like how they are lighting him on SPN. I know that the show has a tendency to be lit dark most of the time, but they made Corin look like a mummy when he's really not that old. The man is only about 16 months older than I am, for the love of God. Don't make him look like he's 50.
Second, I read a really interesting theory
on monicawoe's journal about the Campbells - did anyone else catch that the djinn the Campbells captured was the waitress from the beginning of the ep? That's when she poisoned Dean. I don't actually know the person who wrote this review, but she has a very valid theory - how do we know that the Campbells didn't already have some sort of control over the djinn from the beginning and that they deliberately sicked it on Dean? HMMMMMM. Maybe they wanted Sam and Dean to be reunited for some reason/wanted to bring Dean out of hiding and did it this way. I'm sure they can't have good motives, doing it like that. This idea makes me even more excited for the Campbells and seeing how they are developed. I hope it's more of a grey thing than a purely evil thing, because those types of villains are always more interesting to me. It would also be cool if not everyone is in on the true motive so we have some Campbells going "GUUUUH what are you doing?!" That could be exciting. *bounce bounce*
**SPOILERS FOR SUPERNATURAL 6.04** Have you seen the pics from 6.04 yet? Sam and Dean, in a crappy hotel room, TOGETHER!! Does this mean we can see Dean back in the hunt as early as the fourth episode? I HOPE SO! **SPOILERS FOR SUPERNATURAL 6.04**
Oh, I also remembered to watch "Outsourced" for the first time tonight. It was pretty funny! All the characters have distinctive and fun personalities. It didn't hit too close to home for the full 30 minutes. I may just have to remember to watch it next week!
