spn_fridayfive 1. Who has been your favourite guest star so far in season 2?
Gordon (Sterling K. Brown)
2. Sam and Dean clearly have a hard time expressing their feelings, but they do say writing things down is oftentimes a very good, easy way to express yourself. If Dean were to write a letter to Sam, what would he say? How about vice versa? Feel free to list out contents of the letter(s) or write full-blown letters.
That all depends on the circumstances. I'm actually writing an e-mail from Dean to Sam in a chapter of one of my fanfics tonight, so enjoy reading that. :D
3. What is the one song that never fails to remind you of Supernatural, even though it isn't connected to the show in any way? (ie. hasn't been used in any episode)
It WAS "Silent Lucidity" until they used it. "Sex on Wheels" by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult makes me think of Dean. "Never Say Die" by Jon Bon Jovi also reminds me of the series and Sam and Dean's brotherhood.
4. If you had the chance to change an ending in one episode, which episode would it be and what would you change? (If you want, you can write out the alternate ending.)
I'd make the ending to "Heart" more believable, like I yacked about before in my post about it.
5. If you could see John Winchester in one outfit (ex. security guard, priest) of your choice, what would it be?
I don't really care about John.
I watched Silent Hill last night. My comments are under the cut because there will be **SPOILERS.**
Before I start, I will say that I have never played this video game. (Anyone who has is welcome to leave comments.) This movie makes me want to. I can see how it would be fun and very intense to blow away all the monsters they presented. Was Rose a character in the video game? What weapon does she have? Does the game switch back and forth between the daylight reality and the Hellish darkness reality also? I'd think that would be totally awesome.
Overall, I'd have to give the movie a thumbs sideways. I couldn't say thumbs down or thumbs up. Here are my reasons why.
Things I liked or loved:
1. I like Radha Mitchell. She was in Nobody's Baby with Skeet Ulrich and played my favorite character in Pitch Black.
2. I got to like the female cop a lot (Cybil Bennett). I like that she quickly adapted to the environment and did the best with what she had to work with, like cops are trained to do. Cybil could have kept insisting that the environment change to suit her view of reality, but instead, she realized she was stuck in some sort of bizarre Hell world, and dealt with it. She also dropped the idea of arresting Rose and worked to protect her and find her child because once the environment became hostile, her duty to get the civilians out unharmed became more important. That was cool. I get kind of sick of cops being portrayed as clueless when it comes to supernatural threats; at some point, sometimes, they've got to figure out a way to deal with it instead of just insisting there's a "rational explanation."
The uniform looked cool on her once she got the jacket off, heh. She came off really strong once she stopped being a typical jerk movie cop. (Which was pretty much when her helmet got blown off.)
3. The special effects were badass. The monsters were neat to look at and very spooky. I would have been doing nothing but running my ass off and screaming at the top of my lungs if creatures like that were coming after me. My favorite effect, though, had to be the way the environment changed from one reality to another when the siren went off. Everything turning to ashes and such. That's one thing I love about modern movie-making - I get to see things I would normally never get to see. Even if a movie's story totally sucks, sometimes the special effects are so dazzling and full of amazing things I would never get to see otherwise that I love the movie despite its lackluster story. (Jurassic Park 2 is a good example.)
4. The siren itself. They picked an awesome siren sound. Everytime it went off, I got major chills. That siren said, "HOLY SHIT! Something fucking cool is about to happen!"
5. Pyramid Head is a VERY scary monster. Where TFH did they get the idea to put a pyramid on a guy's head? I would have liked a little more explanation of him. He was just there, with the giant cake cutter of doom (is this a Japanese video game?), and that was cool, but he made me curious for a story that never came.
6. The scene where Pyramid Head killed Anna on the steps of the church raaawked. Surprise! Slip me some skin, baby!
7. The falling ashes of daylight Silent Hill were hauntingly beautiful.
8. The music at the end, where Rose was driving them home, was also beautiful.
9. Certain aspects of the background story and what happened to Alessa were really interesting and tragic in a way that I can't stop thinking about.
10. The reality that the cult people lived in would make for some interesting stories by itself. Imagine living in that world, scavenging for food, knowing that any minute the sirens could go off and you'll have to run for your life.
11. Anna was a fun character. Just the way she spoke, the tone of her voice, the sarcasm and the cynical edge; I liked listening to her. The way she talked to Rose and Cybil as if they were sooooo dumb and tedious because they knew nothing about how to get by in Silent Hill (*le sigh*) was amusing. Wasn't sorry to see her die, though, muahahaha.
12. The monster nurses were neat! One of the best, scariest scenes.
13. The cinematography was purty. Neat all the way through, from the waterfall to the hazy, falling ashes.
Things I didn't like much:
1. The movie was about thirty minutes too long. The basic attitude seemed to be, "We spent a lot of money making these sets, and goddamnit, you're going to look at them!" Some scenes where nothing happened went on waaaaay too long. People walking around the city, running from building to building, Rose running about screaming Sharon's name... it was easy to get bored and think it was safe to leave the room to do something, only to come back and find you'd missed something important.
2. The ending fucking sucked. First, they killed my cop. Then Rose and Sharon get stuck in the reality of Silent Hill without her husband. I was fairly confused about why, and it was just too tragic an ending for me. Did they die or something?
Alessa's revenge wasn't satisfying enough, either. I wanted Pyramid Head to come in there and start whooping some ass.
3. The cult weren't very well defined. It was hard to see their motivation for anything they did except that they were just crazy. Why did they think Alessa was evil?
4. Several of the names were lame. I just really like for characters to have good names, and if they don't, then they have to be so badass that they own their name and make it cool. Like, Buffy is a lame name, but she owned it and made it cool, and totally changed its meaning for me.
5. I just have to mention again that the cult was really confusing. If it had been thirty years, where did the kids come from? Was Anna supposed to be THAT old? She didn't seem it. Was the cult still having kids in that reality?
6. Why did she wait so long to take the "good part" of Alessa to the orphanage? Sharon was nine, Alessa died thirty years ago. Confusing.
If I think of anything else, I'll add it.
Edit: I wikied "Silent Hill"! :D Found out the following things:
- Rose was not in any of the games; she was created for the movie.
- That whole thing where she insisted she bring the knife with her and then hardly used it before dropping it had no significance. O_o I thought maybe since they made such a big deal about it that she had a knife in the game or something. But no.
- The cult thought Alessa was evil probably because she had psychic powers in the game, so perhaps she had them in the movie too, but it just wasn't mentioned? And anyone who has psychic powers is a "witch" to the cult, and witches must be burned to keep the Apocalypse from happening because the cult thinks they are evil. Ahhhh, I see. What I want to know is, after the town was destroyed and sent into a hellish Otherworld, why did the cult think they had still escaped the Apocalypse and needed to burn further witches? I believe that when you've got Pyramid-headed men lumbering around ripping off your skin whenever they feel like it that you've pretty much gone down the rabbit hole, people.
- Yes, the game also switches back and forth between daylight reality and Hellish darkness reality. Bitchen. So is there no true night in Silent Hill?
- That makes me curious what happened to Sharon during the darkness realities. She probably wasn't touched because of who she is, or maybe she was okay because she didn't go wandering around like everyone else. *shrug*
- It's a helmet, it's not his head. -_-;;
- So what's under the helmet? Eeeeee...
- While the helmet looks cool, and I now understand why it's pointy, still seems an unpractical design. I don't think it was designed to make sense.
- But then again, there was talk about the helmet deliberately being cumbersome to cause Pyramid Head some pain and make him cranky. I'd like to know why, just because I like backstory.
- Yes, the game was designed by the Japanese. HOW did I know?
Edited to reflect new stuff I've wikied. ^_^
