Later this will be where I put my GAAAAH over the season finale of "Supernatural;" I'm about to get offline to squee on the phone with
just_kaye. But I must say one thing...
Okay here I be, with my squee.
I am FUCKING PSYCHIC. They even used the line "you kiss your mother with that mouth" and pulled the fire alarm. KRIPKE IS IN MY HEAD. ::gloat gloat::
More later from the Satanic Roach Motel.
Anyway, here I am. That was a pretty exciting episode, but kind of anti-climactic since I guessed the entire plot before it happened. ;D
Before I go into what I liked, I must totally freak out about stuff from my fanfic, which was written months ago but hasn't been formally released yet, appearing in the season finale. First, there's a part in my fic where Evie from "Miracles" says to Dean, "You kiss your mother with that mouth?" forgetting that Dean's mother is dead. And there the line was in the season finale, said to Dean! Then, in my fic, Dean pulls the fire alarm to clear out a factory where a prediction of disaster has been made, and again, it happened in the season finale, where Dean (I think) suggested they pull the fire alarm to get everybody out of an apartment building. WEEEEE. I couldn't be more jazzed about these coincidences!
And didn't I tell you guys that was how the season finale was going to go? I got the part about "First Wave" guy being Ceiling Demon wrong, but everything else was just about spot on. ::preens:: Sorry to gloat, but I rarely get so much stuff right, even though I did have spoiler picture help, hee.
Stuff I liked:
- Dean's line about marching right into Hell and wasting as many demons as he could - YEOW! Berserker Dean! Go baby go! Kripke, get out of my head! Wait, get back in there and take notes for the show!!
- Loved that exchange where Meg said something about Dean not talking nice to her and he replied by calling her a bitch. Pure Dean! It was just some nice, funny dialogue.
- That circle symbol they used to capture Meg was really neat. A "Satanic Roach Motel," hee!
- Kaye and I discussed this on the phone, but there has got to be something shielding Dean, unless he is made of fucking steel. The man is thrown across a room into a pile of books and just, eventually, gets up without a scratch or a limp. Sure, he was out for half a minute, but then gets up like nothing happened? Then he's thrown into a car windshield and, again, eventually gets up like nothing happened. No back full of glass, doesn't even act like he's in pain. Now, this could just be bad writing - lord knows this show has had its share of that. I know it's not bad acting because if the direction was there, Jensen would do it. He's an excellent actor. So, either it's thoughtless writing, or Dean is being shielded from the full impact of much of the harm that is directed his way (not all of it, of course). Kaye suggested something that I'll be using in my fics - that it's his necklace that is creating the shielding (with credit given, Kaye, of course! ^_^). Gives the necklace a meaning and a purpose.
- The scene where Meg died was really sad. It was hard to think of her as just an innocent person, but the actress did a pretty good job of creating sympathy for the character.
- Bobby's house on the inside, oh my God, it's my apartment! ;D I inherited that packrattism from my mom.
- Dean suffered so much in the scene where the demon ripped him up from the inside out. Jensen's acting was just... WOW. The way he begged his father to fight the demon to make it stop hurting him, that just ripped my heart into itty bitty pieces. Then the way he begged Sam not to shoot their father... poor baby. I used to think that John favored Dean, but the last few episodes have convinced me that he favors Sam, just like Ceiling Demon said. John doesn't have to try as hard with Dean, because Dean's his faithful little dog who will never leave him. But Sam... "They'll never need you as much as you need them." OUCH. Poor Dean. Paul, go comfort him. >:) That was really disappointing that Sam wasn't able to use his psychokinetic abilities at all in this ep. I was totally expecting Sam to go Carrie on Ceiling Demon's ass at some point. At least to get the Colt. Not sure why they gave him the abilities if he wasn't going to use them at opportune moments.
- "When I was a kid, I wanted to be a fireman." "Really?" Heh. Kripke's been reading the lj comms. ;) Seriosuly, fans have been speculating about what Dean could have been if he hadn't become a demon hunter, and fireman is always on the list.
- That was so adorable when Dean freaked out over Sam writing those symbols on his car. The way he tried to rub the stuff off and looked at his fingers, I just giggled. Geez guys, WASH the damn car now and then! It was FILTHY!
Must say something about that cliffhanger, though: PBBTTT. Lame. Like anyone's going to die. Not worried. They can't kill Dean or Sam, and they're not going to kill John this early. (I honestly don't care if they do kill John, though. He's a horrible dad, and I think the angst would be more interesting than him sticking around. I care more about the CAR than I do about John. SORRY.) No one will stay dead if they do get "killed." So it was sort of pointless, IMO. Someone will come along and save the Winchesters, or one of them will wake up and be able to drive the car away. The only character I'm worried about is the freakin' Impala. If they kill that car, so help me...
Also, I have to wonder, just what the hell is Ceiling Demon's M.O.? He has "plans" for children like Sam, so exactly how does he operate? He had plenty of time to take Sam when he visited him when he was a baby. But, no kidnappie. And exactly how did Mary and Jessica "get in the way"? I don't think the writers know how to make sense of that. They should have just had Ceiling Demon say something about killing the women because he's evil and enjoys doing it, because there was no other reason for them to die. They didn't get in the way of his plans at all, that I can see. Perhaps their deaths could be used as catalysts to make a person turn evil, like Max. Other than that, it's not like they could have done anything to stop Ceiling Demon from doing anything he wanted, unless they were supposed to have psychic abilities too (which I think Mary did). He would have just glued them to the wall.
Another bad thing: Exorcisms are NOT that easy, even for seasoned pros. I understand, though, that this is tv and they have a limited time to tell a story, so I can overlook that one.
Overall, great episode. Lots of family angst and Dean whumping and good snark. Let the coda fics begin!
