I'll be on vacation! :O Technically closer than that but...who's counting, really? ::mooneyes:: I've got so much to do before then but I'm really looking forward to doing some real traveling!
I almost missed seeing "Moon" last night but luckily Tori wasn't working so I dragged her to the Art Theater to see the last showing of it anywhere close to me. Phew!~ I was considering going alone if I couldn’t find anyone to come with me but really don't like to go see movies alone. The reason is that half the fun of going to a movie theater is reacting with someone else; leaning over and making some quiet comment, ribbing the person next to you and stifling a giggle at a shared joke, turning and sharing shocked faces with your friend. Movies that you attend the theater for are best enjoyed with friends. Save the ones you want to see alone for home. /rant
Luckily, we both truly enjoyed this trippy, trippy film. I'm not usually one for "high-brow" or independent films but even though this might have fallen in both of those categories, it was still was sci-fi to the core and a step away from the sci-fi/fantasy that I'd been used to seeing of late. Nothing wrong with Sci-Fi/Fantasy (helllllo, Star Wars = ♥) but it was fun to step into true-blue science fiction for a change. As trite as it sounds, I would venture to describe the film as both deep and emotional. There were suspenseful, mysterious, and heartfelt moments that kept you engaged in the story and managed to both entertain me and keep me wondering. The clichés that we have come to expect are ignored as the plot would just completely sidestep them as if they weren’t aware that there were established conventions for similar scenes. Instead, you find your expectations constantly challenged on what will happen next.
I appreciated that the film didn’t go down a few roads it could have (to discuss them would really spoil it) and you must understand that if I liked film, there was a satisfying conclusion to the story, as that is an essential for me. Besides the whole “wicked corporation” deal, there wasn’t any offensive hidden agenda, which wears thin on me very quickly. I also liked the amazing split screen action and the captivating performance by a single actor.
Anyway, we loved it. Definitely one of the better films I've seen this year so I'm sad that it was just not advertised at all. If I didn't frequent
Den of Geek I'd never have heard about it. Bravo, website! :D From all the reviews I’d read on it, I had a feeling this would end up being some cult classic down the line and I kinda wanted to be sure I saw it as it was intended to be shown before I lost my opportunity. I am well pleased.
