I think I've posted almost everyday this week. That's a lot of posting out of me.
My Tempest armor is suprisingly finished and I'm tired as hell. No fucking shit. I only started it at 8:00 pm last night. I was in one of those moods where I was like, okay, I have a game plan; let's just forge ahead. Honestly...I'm a little suprised it worked myself.
See, sometimes I'll plan things for months and then upon execution...things don't work out. I have to rethink things and, as Mr. Gunn would say, "Make it work." This just...worked. We went to Tori's birthday dinner, then I picked up the leatherette at Joanne's last night, the brown eyelets and leather cording at Hobby Lobby, and went home and started that beeeach. My plan was to cover the wonderflex (being lightweight and bendable) with the leatherette, hot glue into place, punch holes and add eyelets, and string each bit together with the leather cording. The reference art wasn't very clear what was holding his armor together (they drew little slashs over seams) so this is what I inferred is going on. The eyelets give it a more "clean" look and the armor looks like it should.
The only thing that looks wonky is the fact that it bends a tad in the front, but I believe this will be alleviated with the binding. When I squashed my chest up, it doesn't happen. Thank goodness for the chest binder that Liz bought that will work for me. I'm so not used to crossplays. :P
Sadly my hands ache from the strength that was needed to punch holes in the armor. Sure, I have a eyelet tool but it's meant for fabric; you have to punch several holes to make it big enough for the eyelets to go through on static items. If only the hole punch would have been stronger...that would have worked so much better. Also, hot glue and my fingers. ;o; My hands look knarled from all the glue and I've got a slight blister on my left index finger from pressing the glue into place. ::sigh:: Sadly, no one will take me for a proper lady with these hands; I'm definitely a working class girl.
To do yet:
*Make spats for Tempest/Fresca (Tue)
*Finish quiver(Tue)
*Spray arrows & add feathers(Tue)
*Fix Shampoo's belt (Tue)
*Finish Fresca/Tempest trim(Wed)
*Style wigs Shampoo/Tempest's wig (Wed)
*Add hooks and eyes on Molly, Schmendrick, & Fresca's top.(Wed)
*If time allows, Make Molly's coat/scarf. (Wed) I put this off because they aren't totally necessary to the costume, considering she's generally not wearing them except for travelling but I have the fabric for both and they're really simple designs. I could whip them together in an hour.
When I list it out like this, it actually isn't so bad! I wish every ACen I could be this organized. I think it had a lot to do with backing out of the Masquerade. I'm feeling so much more focused; I hope to make a good comeback next year and then maybe seriously look into retiring the Anime Central Masquerade after that. Who knows though, we may have a great time next year and want to do more. I'm just feeling so glad I'm not doing in this year. So much pressure is lifted, you have no idea.
So, here's the important part of this. This may very well be my last update before the event. When will I see everyone this year? As for the Ota-Queen's (
dali-lamb,
lil_senmurv, & myself), we will be arriving as early as possible on Thursday--hopefully before or around noon. I know the great plus one Ota-Queen,
cranberrysheep is leaving around one on Thursday.
So what about you guys? Lemme know if you need my number too for hooking up purposes. I'm so looking forward to everything!! :D
