It's Christmas! Well, for those of you lucky enough to live here in Australia, that is. The rest of you probably have to wait a little while. But when it's Christmas for you guys, too, post here telling me all about your haul! (I seriously want to hear, I get an inordinate amount of enjoyment out of listening to people talk about gifts they received.)
Christmas this year was just my mother and I, and it was probably my favourite Christmas yet. We stayed up until midnight so that we could open our presents as soon as possible - our first Christmas in our new home.
We're both the kind of people to buy lots of small presents rather than one large one, although I DID get one large one this year that I wasn't expecting, but I'll get to that at the end.
Some of the things I got:
- Two 2D plastic vases that are meant to fold out into 3D ones when you pour water in them, and some of those water gel balls that you keep plants in instead of water (both of which I have wanted to try out for ages, but never did)
- An old-fashioned stiff turquoise-coloured makeup bag that can also be used as a kind of handbag, I guess - for keeping my nailpolish collection in
- Some erasers shaped like things
- A large, padded decorative box for storing things you care about, with Japanese-style paintings and stuff on the sides
- Hubba Bubba bubblegum tape
- Other wonderful reminders that I am still actually 5 years old
But here's that "big thing" I wasn't expecting:
PWNIES
Rarity isn't new, I bought her myself a while ago. Cheeralee was a Christmas present, but I had already picked her out, so I was expecting her. It's Applejack (and the Sweet Apple Acres playset) that was such a wonderful surprise.
Mum had always been saying that she felt bad if she didn't buy me at least one 'special' thing for Christmas, so I said that if she really wanted to, this playset was something I was looking at buying. (I want it because it's the only version of Applejack I've seen where she comes with her hat.)
But of course, all the extra ineffective plastic flotsam and "accessories" made the playset more than twice as expensive as Applejack on her own, but Applejack without her hat is like Usagi without her dumplings; just another generic pony/anime face. I mentioned it to her, but I said that it would be OK if she didn't buy it, because we're trying to cut back on our spending and it's really not something I need. Later, when she was bemoaning our financial status, I reminded her that she didn't have to buy me the playset, and she gave me a little smile that said, "Thanks for that". I took that to mean I would have to go back to my initial plan of saving up, which was OK.
SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW ELATED I FELT WHEN I UNWRAPPED THE PLAYSET. I felt like a 5-year-old again. Turns out the smile I thought was "quiet relief" was more "sheepish guilt", as she had already bought it by then.
Anyway, I painted Applejack's hat brown (originally, it was a bright baby blue - ?????) and now she is looking dandy as hell. I kind of invented a convoluted reason for why all three of them would be at Sweet Apple Acres, too - well, Rarity and Applejack are already friends, so that's not too hard. Maybe AJ needs some help with building nests for some new baby birds, or her ~high-falutin'~ relatives are coming to stay and she needs some serious interior decoration hints, fast. IDK, I loved Applejack + Rarity's episode (the slumber party one) so I really don't need any excuses for me to just cram them in the same general area. And Cheeralee is there because she's checking up on Apple Bloom and Sweetie Bell! For some teacherly reason. It all fits, it's totally like a new episode right there on my bookshelf. Don't ruin this for me.
That's totally enough from me re: MLP now, though.
Also, if your name is Spirit, there's a
scribble for you too.
This really didn't turn out much like I'd hoped at all, but I was having an "I can't draw anythinnggg" day, so this is what happened. I have no idea if the girls are meant to look the same in your fic as they are in the series (as in, faces and hairstyles), but I hope this can still fit in there somewhere.
And even if you just skip over this on your FList, that's ok too. Happy Holidays to you all! ♥
