I have no title. I cry.
I am the only dorkward in the history of EVER who SOMEHOW managed to show up to work an HOUR early when it's nowhere near daylight savings. @__@ I'm quite boggled. I have two alarms set, one for eight and one for nine, and for some reason I got up to the eight one and just went to work thinking it was nine.
Yeesh
So anyways,
orca5094 A.K.A. Teddy came to visit me this weekend. She is an awesome and pretty well-known member of the Pony community.
Yes, we are a community. We have two large main message boards and a third (and technically fourth, but it's locked to non-members) more adult one for bitching and snarking. Teddy runs one of the (if not THE) main websites for one of the MLP cartoons, My Little Pony Tales. I've been friends with her here on LJ for quite awhile now. She's never been to NYC before. She wanted to stop by on her way down from her grandparents upstate. She posted in her LJ asking me what would be the best things for her to do and it turned into us planning a meet-up! ^__^
She decided to stay the weekend and booked reservations at this hostel near Central Park. Steve's friend (and now mine) Chris from Long Island, who knows the city very well, came with me to meet her and help us get around. We picked her up at the hostel where she was storing some stuff and her pet Betta in the lockers. We then headed off for a walk through Central Park. We tried to get to the Zoo, and the Balto statue, but ran out of time before we met with Karen.
Karen is an even more established collector known as Kar Red Roses. She lives in Astoria and it's a shame we haven't hung out before because she is AWESOME. I hope to be joining her and some other collectors in May to Maryland for a Pony Meet. Which is a smallish gathering of collectors at someone's house, basically.
So we trotted through the city showing Teddy around and possibly making Chris want to jump down the Subway stairs with our Pony talk. We took her to FAO Schwartz and Rockefeller Center. We also met for a bit with Karen's best friend, yet another collector, PrincessLuna. She was with her mother and stepfather and fiance and we were having trouble staying in a large group, so we separated from them after awhile and headed to Times Square. Then to St. Marks Place, for the best. store. EVER. Love Saves the Day. It sells a BUNCH of vintage toys and random items. Please go google it. It's a NY institution. Unfortunately it's closing. But I CAN visit it's new location every now and again. It's moving to New Hope, PA, another little town I ADORE.
We picked up some vintage Ponies there. ^__^ A little overpriced for a usual secondhand store but for the collector (at least in my speciality) I'm quite sure it evens out vs. eBay.
Karen and Chris and Teddy and I then made our way to 23th, near my culinary school, for one of me and Karen's favorite shops, Reminiscence. Then we ate at Olive Garden (BEST bread sticks EVAH) and Forbidden Planet, a comic book shop. Place is like heaven. I found a new favorite flavor of Pocky, Brazilian Pudding. I was told by Chris it's basically Flan, but it is SO YUMMY.
Then, though Karen decided to go home because her back was acting up, Teddy and Chris and I went to see Bolt in 3D. This was mt second time seeing it, and I recommend you ALL see it. It is wonderful, my favorite new Disney film. Pixar FTW.
After we decided it was time to head home. We brought Teddy back to her hostel and went in to make sure she got it okay.
She didn't. -_- While EXPEDIA had her reservations they somehow NEVER made it over to the hostel. And the hostel had NO room.
So guess who came home with me? ^__^ On the Subway-Ferry-Bus with a rolling suitcase, a fish, and some Ponies in shopping bags. Which is usually the way I travel back after seeing Steve, sans the Betta.
This is getting long, and Daddy is on me to log off to do the dishes. I can post about the second day tomorrow or this weekend, but for now I leave you with Karen's pics of the first day. Karen is the red-head, Teddy has curly hair, and I'm the fat pink one. -_-
