at a girls' night out at her place with me and my roommate.
On playing footsie with my roommate while watching TV:
"I feel like I'm being seduced into a threesome with my mother."
After giving my roommate a Dirty Sanchez and my roommate attempting to retaliate by sticking a finger down the front of her pants:
"I'm not letting you touch me with that. It's enough that I came out of my mother's vagina and I'm going to smell like her for the rest of my life."
And then later, when I gave the daughter a hug (my turn to bring the strange and funny):
"Your shoulder smells like vagina."
That's what happens when three women consume three bottles of wine, numerous shots of Apple Pie liqueur, and a six-pack of beer. Plus, we all have filthy, filthy minds.
Sunday was much tamer. The daughter and I went to a glassblowing class. Have some pictures!
My cat, Elliot, was having problems keeping his food down; he was throwing up after every meal. After a couple of weeks without it getting any better, I took him to the vet. $1700 of tests later, we found out that Elliot has lymphoma. It sucks. I can't afford treatment for him (cancer treatment, whether for humans or animals, is fucking expensive) and all we can do is give him steroids to make it so he can eat. At some point, that's not going to work any more and I'll have to take him in to have him put down. Not looking forward to that.
Otherwise, it's been so long since I posted, there's really not much point in trying to catch you up with everything in minutiae. Good stuff was things like: roommate came back from California (as you can tell from girls' night out), actually finished a fic and posted it, birthday dinner with family day after Valentine's Day, karaoke birthday party for two friends (total blast), and that's all I can think of for now for the good.
For the mundane, work has been very, very busy. We have our big scholarship/adult non-traditional student awards nomination period that starts in late December and runs through March 1st. Of course, everyone waits until the last minute to nominate/submit applications. As part of the scholarship committee (and administrative support) I've been spending most of my time setting up folders to organize transcripts, student statements, nomination statements, etc. I've had to read close to 120 scholarship applications, score them, and then hash out in committee which student is going to get which award (there are 25 scholarships awarded.) It all keeps one busy! And now that we've done that, we have to set up the reception for all the awardees, family and friends, nominators/references, important VIPS (donors, Dean of Students, etc.). Which means sending out invitations (375), wrangling Bucky (he needs a room reserved just for him so he has somewhere to change into the outfit), stuffing bags full of toys for the kids that come to the reception with the parents, monitoring RSVPs, and so much more. ::whimper::
To top it all off, around the same time, we posted the position that opened up when we let go that one academic staff member. Of course, I'm the point person on that, too. More folders, more spreadsheets, more e-mails acknowledging receipt of application materials, more everything. And we received 110 applications. Jeez Louise, that was twice as many as when we posted it last time! It's been a virtual tsunami of administrative tasks that just won't stop. Makes me wish for the start of the next term just to have a break! And I normally would be whining like crazy about the senior guest auditors at that time. (Just wait, I will be whining about when the time comes, trust me.) Maybe now I can get back to things like inventorying our marketing materials. Can do that in my sleep.
So, that's the last month or so in a nutshell. A mixed bag, I'd say, but nothing that has sent me off the deep end.
