Title: Party of the Third Part Artist: pouf Author: sail_aweigh Rating: art G/fic PG-13 Genre/Pairing: Contemporary AU, Kirk/McCoy pre-slash Word Count: 6580 Warnings: swearing, child in minor medical peril
Lovely! Love that Jim figured it out when he was going to have a child of his own and how he was honest with Bones.
I have to admit to being a sucker for Jim with David and seeing that he finally got his son to raise was wonderful as was the developing friendship and more between Jim and Bones.
I really wanted to explore the Jim/David relationship in a different setting and writing a contemporary AU gave me the opportunity. I feel like most Kirk/McCoy writers forget about him. Many of them (myself included!) like to toss Joanna into the stories as a possible source of tension between Kirk and McCoy, but we overlook David consistently. I do like the way it ended up shaping this story.
You already know how much I love this, and do not need another round of begging/nagging for a sequel, so...
My very favorite thing about this was seeing Jim deal with the trials of normal life in such a Jim-like way--with creativity, good humor, and determination. Jim as a loving father absolutely kills me dead, and there were so many authentic slice-of-life moments. I love Jim/Bones for the maturity and realism of the relationship, and it doesn't get much more real than a couple of single dads trying to carve out a little time in the madness for themselves.
Thank you, bb! It doesn't hurt that I have you to help me clarify my thoughts when something just isn't working. And you may still get your wish for a sequel. The more I think about this story, I find that I still have more to say.
Thank you! It seems like no matter how much I try to go for the angst, I always end up with hearts and flowers. And my family thinks I'm a pessimist; they should read my fic.
