070211: Daruma Times

"The overt virtues commonly associated with the Daruma has misinformed a large proportion of those who have found no reason to look pass its superficial message: success follows failure, always. Falling and rising are like two orbiting planetary bodies."

"You're preaching to the choir, Herr Doktor, I've looked into the bowels of the Abyss."

"So you say. This specimen has been dated long before records of our Indian prince was ever known to have existed. Truly, it is an ineffable matter."

The blunt end of a walking stick was directed towards the stone tablet and the carving contained within, as though there would be any chance of the listener mistaking the reference in a section of the museum left otherwise empty.

"I thought that you gave up humanism in favour of deitism a long time ago."

"God *is* human, young man, only our physical structure restricts us into duality."

The man's brows furrowed at this, a strange piece of news hardly of the scale he had expected.

"I did travel a rather distance..."

"No, you fail to understand." The same blunt end of the stick was brought down onto a polished tile, hard enough that the man glanced expectantly for where a crack might appear. Steely gaze left unmet, the doctor's voice carried no sign of annoyance.

"The quality that we were talking about is *inherent* to the Daruma's structure, the question is how to arrive at that point after the nature of the universe has been made clear."

"I take it that you're not suggesting that we chop off our arms and legs? I'm rather fond of mine, all things considered."

"For the Daruma, it is impossible to fall in the first place, do you see? When you move with all your arms, movement is all there is. In my age I've grown used to dispensing with formalities, so you'll excuse me when I say that I've seen the way you look at yourself in the mirror."

"The scene ends soon, my Doktor."

"Then consider this, my narrative nomad: we already have what we need, the search was long over; all that remains is to remove what has been given to make us think otherwise. Think about that the next time you find yourself staring into the underside of the Abyss, and we need not meet again."
