[ Drabble ] - The Genius Beside Me
Title : The Genius Beside Me

lee ki kwang fucking hates calculus.
one reason is he's stupid enough for math. another reason, he's just not into it at all. he hates it. he hates calculus, and he hates his teacher more. yes, ms. young is sexy, but she is just the bitch-next-door you won't want to be neighbors with. she's arrogant, always mad (to be honest) and just as he is watching glee (though he couldn't understand everything), kikwang is convinced that ms. young, his calculus teacher, is the living representation of sue sylvester in seoul, in his school, right now, in his calculus class.
ms. young gives everyone a test sheet filled with complicated numbers and letters combines, tells the class to answer it in 30 minutes (too much for 50 items), then gives shit loads of assignments as she writes them on the board. one text book for a school year may not be enough. kikwang gulps as he receives his paper, unsure of what to do. and his options will have to be either, a) run away and never show up but that would be too impossible, or b) answer this test and get an F.
son dong woon is okay with everything math.
he is not the math freak, that's for sure, but he likes math with a generous amount. he's up for numbers and letters and he would answer them with all effort, putting each and every brain cell to work. he likes the feeling of cramming and running for the time as it approaches, screaming wait ms. young one more number! and the feeling of satisfaction after answering those bat-shit questions.
he just likes it. weird, but he does.
lee ki kwang is lazy.
he wouldn't even exert any effort to memorize some formulas here and there. he knows he doesn't have to put all effort in it, cause he has many friends that can help him. oops. yoseob is his only friend. and to be quite honest, yoseob is good in anything but academics. the boy knows hat tricks, not calculus.
kikwang is in a dead end. he's got one friend. a best friend that won't be an advantage (but yoseob is not to blame actually), he's got a lousy brain and he lacks social life, meaning, he's not good in making tons of friends (except yoseob; cause yoseob was there since forever).
there's only one thing left to do; befriend some genius. and some would have to be the only genius; son dong woon.
dongwoon doesn't have many friends either.
well, there's this transfer student, who left him because he has to transfer to another city again. dongwoon cursed all the greek gods for that because that was his only friend.
moving on, kikwang doesn't know what to say when making friends. um hi i'm lee ki kwang. i want to be your friend because i suck at math and can you teach me? that sounded to wrong.
dongwoon likes bringing his small keyboard to school everyday.
kikwang always sees him going towards the stairway to the rooftop. maybe son dong woon likes being alone in the roof top.
lee ki kwang took a risk.
maybe befriending the younger boy for other things wouldn't hurt. kikwang and yoseob are feeling lonely, to be honest. and kikwang feels pity towards the other one. his 758439 IQ can't earn him friends.
without yoseob for the day (being absent because of mild fever), kikwang decided to follow dongwoon. he saw the younger boy sitting by the corner, his lunch box beside; and it was him, kikwang and the melody from the keyboard. it was too fascinating in the ear, it was calming, relaxing in every way. kikwang closed his eyes a little, and he heard the music stop. he opened his eyes and saw dongwoon already devouring in his lunch box.
he hesitated for a moment.
he took the risk.
he walked towards dongwoon, saying hey as he approached. the younger boy was immensely shocked, not used to being disturbed by anyone in his alone time (and alone time would have to be all the time).
they stared at each other for some time, getting more awkward as the time passes by. kikwang stated his intentions, and behind those intentions, he really wanna say hi i'm kikwang and i wanna be friends with you, get to know you a little more because it would be nice if we got to be friends without me always depending on you over calculus. he stated it anyway.
but dongwoon was smart.
"i know you're here to befriend me because you suck at math. i'm not surprised with that. hi, i'm son dong woon. and it would be nice to be friends with you." kikwang saw him smile for the first time in his entire life.

yoseob finally came back after 2 days of being sick, shocked when he heard the news that dongwoon would be an addition to their group of two, shocked but happy anyway. at least they would have a private math tutor, not taking advantage, for real.
