Yunho took a hold of the pretty boy’s wrist and dragged him away from the now somewhat crowded street where they already caught the attention of lots of people, thanks to the boy’s lack of decency. Disappearing around the corner into a secluded alley, they were as far as possible from unwanted stares and the brunette sighed relieved for a moment - before his gaze went back to the frightened stare of the acolyte, who was pinned against the brickwall of an old, deserted house. Yunho was quick in letting go of the boy, this position was somehow compromising and he didn’t want the other to cause another scene.
“Listen, boy-“- “JaeJoong.”
It took the taller a moment to realize the teen was telling him his name... not that he would ever need it again, but it sure was pretty, suiting the delicate boy.
“Okay, listen, JaeJoong, what I do and how I do it isn’t your business at all. I assure you, you don’t have to worry about a thing, I go to check-ups regularly and I do know how to protect myself. For your other accusation, as far as I remember I wasn’t forcing you to do anything and I even gave you room to defend yourself, but instead of at least telling me to stop, you were quite cooperative. So, don’t put all that blame on me and maybe start questioning yourself what made you submit so easily.” The wicked half-smile was back. Seeing the black-haired blush due to the slightest mentioning of their last encounter was entertinaining, the inner struggle obvious.
“And now, would you please spare me any more of your religion talk and let me be? You know, you cannot persuade everyone to agree with your beliefs and I would prefer to stick with mine, thank you very much!”
JaeJoong knew it would probably be better to let the boy go now and never see him again, it would be way better for his own peace, but the question burning in his throat was just too persistent to keep inside.
“And what exactly is it that you believe in?”
Yunho turned back to look at him, a superior expression adorning his face, as he smiled widely and answered: “Myself, little JaeJoong. I do believe in everything I am capable to do and everything I can achieve. If I need anything, I am working to get it. Spending my life praying won’t get me anywhere - it won’t get me a roof over my head or food into my stomach. And actually, I don’t care for what will happen to me in the afterlife... I think it’s more important to live here and now and make the best out of the moment! Who knows? Maybe tomorrow we could both be dead!”
JaeJoong was rendered speechless. He had met a lot of people, especially young ones, who didn’t believe in God, but never once was anybody as insistent and set as this boy was. Most of the young people were making fun of religion, thinking it was uncool to love your neighbour as yourself and distance oneself from the temptations of sex and drugs and deviance. But for some reason, there seemed to be more under the surface of this boy.
“You may be right, no one could solely depend on God’s mercy - a man needs to work hard to live a fulfilled life. But He can be a shoulder to cry on, someone you can rely on in your darkest hours, to show you the right path when you feel lost... isn’t that worth something?”
The brunette’s expression turned darker with every word JaeJoong was speaking out loud.
“What do you know about feeling lost, little church boy? Shut up if you only have empty phrases to throw at me.”
It was clear that nothing Jae had to say could reach the taller boy, let alone change his mind. But still, JaeJoong was never one to give up easily, especially in questions of faith.
“You know, it’s not God’s powers alone, we’re a whole community and we can help you - you don’t need to live the way you do, selling your body and sleeping in the streets-“
“God and your sect of a community can go and fuck themselves, for all I care! You feel so superior with your lifestyle, huh? Jung Yunho does not live in the streets and I never said anything about despising the way I’m living, did I? You’re such a hypocrite - you don’t even know me, yet you judge me! You don’t know anything about the real world, little good boy. Keep dreaming and living in your world of pretense, I prefer the real world!”
And with those words spoken in furious rage, Yunho left, leaving JaeJoong in a mixture of feelings he never felt so strong - anger, shock and a strange urge to not let the poor boy go and fight the world all by himself.

“And then he said, I wouldn’t understand the real world, as if I am some kind of secludedly raised Casper Hauser. And he called me a hypocrite! Really, I think I never met anybody so stubborn and angry and idiotic as this boy!”
Father Matthew let a chuckle escape his throat before composing himself upon seeing JaeJoong’s angry stare. He sat down next to the boy he almost considered his son, a warm smile spreading over his face.
“You know, I was quite happy to know you’d be spending more time again in our church, but now it seems as if you’re bringing more problems back~ do you think you can prolong your time staying at that other church?”
JaeJoong looked up, pretty annoyed by his patron’s attempt on being funny. “I’m serious here, so please stop your lame jokes!”
The priest kept on smiling. “Well, you know, the world outside is rich with variations, that was what God wanted it to be like and you know, His decisions are the best, even though they might appear unreasonable to us. Maybe your friend had a lot of hardship to endure - there are many people outside who live a tough life and while some remain strong because they keep their faith and have God at their side, others choose to give up on Him. But this doesn’t mean He gives up on them as well. And if He still has faith in His children, you should be the same. I know it is hard sometimes, but you shouldn’t be angry at the boy but think about a way to help him. His words might hurt you, but think about the inner pain that cause him to speak this way.”
Jae sighed. He knew the Father was right, but he was still angry and this boy just had the talent to really get him to the edge of patience. “But he called me a hypocrite and he offended God! And he said I live in a world of pretense. Believe me, that guy doesn’t want me to help or understand him, he just wants to make me angry.”
Now it was the cleric’s turn to sigh and drop the smile. “Listen, JaeJoong, I know you are a good kid, but maybe that boy isn’t all wrong. I don’t mean the things he says about us being a sect or living in a dream world, but you know... there are some experiences in life you’ve been missing and I’m afraid that might cause some lack in understanding on your side. Who knows, it is possible that the boy and you could help each other to become better persons. No matter how insulting he may speak, at least he spoke to you, which might mean that he wants to open up to you?”
With a downcast look, Jae was quiet for a while. “You really think I’m not experienced enough?”
The priest put his arm around the boy’s shoulders. “I think you are a great young man, JaeJoong and I don’t think you’re lacking anything, but experiencing some of the harder things in life could help you advising your parishioners later, when you become a priest yourself. People have problems, son, and they want you to listen, to understand and help them, which is only possible if you understand what they’re going through. I don’t advise you to take drugs and get into fistfights - even though I don’t think you need any more practise with that - but to just open up to others, especially if they lost their faith in God. Because, who knows, if you understand them, you might be able to change their minds.”
Father Matthew was right - God never gave up on any of his children, no matter how wrong their actions, they always got a chance. So perhaps, even Yunho could get another chance, he only needed to understand and if what his priest just told him was true, it might be JaeJoong’s task to help the brunette boy to see his faults and the solution.
Who knows? Maybe it was God’s greater plan to let the two of them meet. No matter how wrong the encounter, it was what made JaeJoong come into that foreign area of town, what made him recognize Yunho and cross the street, start talking with him and Yunho, out of defence, reacted. There was still hope for the boy clad in leather with black polished nails and it was JaeJoong’s task to help people come back to the right path, the reason why he was chosen to be a priest by the Lord and no matter how tough it might be, he was determined to change the other boy’s life for the better.
