Vulture oversight

In my last uneventful post I totally spaced telling the one thing that DID happen. Last Sunday morning as I was driving home from work I saw a large bird sitting on top of a utility pole. I slowed down to try to identify it and rolled to a stop as I saw it's red head. It was a Turkey Vulture! On a pole! Next to the road!

Now I've seen a lot of vultures, but never this up close. Usually I notice them when they're circling, but I've also seen them perched, always in groups and at a fair distance. This was one, on a telephone pole next to the road.

I sat in my car and stared at it for awhile. Then I got out and walked nearer. It just sat there, occasionally shifting a bit. Eventually I got the impression it realized it was being watched and took off down the mountain out of sight.

Very odd. I had wanted to share.
