Tuition: check. And oddly, unlike last year it seems like my father will pay for my full year of school rather than just the one semester. Whee!
I talked to my grandmother a bit about my study abroad deliberation. So far, there are programs I want to do in Australia, India, Brazil, South Africa, and Vietnam (and perhaps a few others). And I have a scheme: if I can't afford the tuition to study abroad during the school year (as I don't know if UPS will continue to offer my grant for study abroad), then I will save like crazy and go on the South Africa summer program focusing on education instead. Anyway, my grandmother was vicariously excited for me (despite the fact that people from South Africa and India "and all them places are really backward and uneducated" and probably terrorists-aren't I scared of them? Once I assured her that, no, people there are probably smarter than me because they know more than one language and I do not and also I wouldn't be allowed to go to dangerous places, she was all for it). Despite her veneer of racism, though, my grandmother is a pretty nice person, and certainly supportive of her family.
A few nights ago my mother, sister, and I reconnected with one Dave Dollar, the guy who got me into Battlestar Galactica. He went through a rough period in his life (though it often seems like his entire existence is a rough period) and thus lost contact with us, but my mother ran into him randomly and invited him to dinner. And he came, which is the great part. During after-dinner conversation my sister and I got into a pretty intense debate/fight about Pirates of the Caribbean, which sort of ended up neutrally because of Dave's presence.
Raisa, Ms. Hays, Sara Hayden, and I hung out for a bit at Bean Cycle last night (though Sara didn't say much as we discussed district population trends and teachers mostly). Most amusingly, Ms. Hays asked me if Adrian and Audrey were still together (as she has almost every time I've mentioned them since they graduated) and then I made Adrian talk to her for a bit. I paid for that though because she in her goodbye said to him "I'll give you back to your girl now" which I'm sure she thought was cute but I certainly did not. I made a face, in fact.
