I dunno if y'all know this or not, but I (along w/ a family friend) just found out this yesterday. Her daugher, M, was playing w/ a box of Christmas lights and I vaguely remembered last year reading a lead warning on the box of our lights. [It rang a bell since I was pregnant last Xmas and I was paranoid to what I was exposed to...] Anyways, so we looked at the box and sure enough, the lead warning was there. We googled and found that EVERY electrical cord contains lead. I dunno how much lead it's in them but still...why risk it. Basically, electrical cord's outer layer is made of PVC which contains lead. Over time, it deteriotes and you get lead dust. Of course, you should be extra careful w/ older cords. I don't let Tyler suck on electrical cords...otherwise, I'd be a really bad mom! But there're times when he gets close to touching the cords. (We have outlet covers so he can't unplug the appliances or stick his fingers in the outlet-- but that still leave the cords themselves exposed.)
So just wash your hands after handling electrical cords! If anyone finds out any contradicting info, please feel free to share!
