birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday-- I'm not trolling for felicitations, but I do need to record Bob's incredible generosity and thoughtfulness on my birthday.

Last year he missed it because he had to move out of his A2 apartment. I spent the day 1. alone and 2. hung over. It sucked. So I teased Bob about his plans for abandoning me this year pretty much incessantly. As he told me later, he felt like he really had to make it up for me this year.

So he planned several surprises for me this year-- Saturday night he took me to see the revival of "Glengarry Glen Ross" with Liev Schreiber, which is closing this week. We had planned to go see this but I'd never gotten around to it, plus-- expensive. The seats were something like seventh row center. It was really fantastic; Liev Schreiber is my boyfriend, of course, but I've never seen anyone better on stage. Afterward we had great sushi.

Sunday he planned a brunch with surprise special guests (ok, I admit I kind of already knew about it, but to his credit he had already suspected how I found out) and we had birthday cake at our place.

I took Monday off, and we went to the gym and saw 40-Year-Old Virgin. That night he took me out to a wonderful Spanish dinner at Bolo.

Today, my gift came: he had our mutual friend Pat, an artist, draw an entire comic page about the two of us. Pat had drawn a comic for his MFA project and he's a fantastic artist. The strip is 12 panels of a dinner we had a few weeks back when Bob won a bet I'd made with him previously and then I told him I'd pay him the $5 I owed him-- in hugs. It's just-- really finely realized. Amazing. I wish I had a digital camera. Bob considers the purchase for a good cause since we're always trying to support Pat. (BTW Pat's MFA comic is on sale in several comic book stores around the country. Let me know if anyone wants to know where.)
