The latest on my circus adventures:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/MeganinVA And here's something I don't want to post on that blog.
Yesterday, apparently, was a surprise drug sweep of the train.
Feld Entertainment has a VERY strict policy against illegal drugs: If you are caught with them, you are OUT within 24 hours.
This was my first time seeing the results of a surprise inspection firsthand. One of the clowns and the two pie car chefs were fired immediately. I haven't been here long, but it's been long enough to get to know all of these people. It hurts to know that I'm not going to see them again, and won't even get to say goodbye :(
Not to mention their close friends and coworkers, who will be inconsolable for a while. The rest of us not only have to get over the shock of their leaving so quickly, but someone also has to pick up their workload. Like, who's going to cook on the pie car??
So...I'm going to be a dick and just say how I feel about this.
Basically a lot of people are acting like it's a tragedy, saying "I'm so sorry" to the person who lost their job and shaking their fists at Feld like they're some kind of evil overseer.
Come ON. Everyone knows the policy when they sign on.
It boils down to how important this job is for you, that you'd risk it over a drug habit (yes, pot is a habit, like smoking or coffee or alcohol).
If you're not willing to A) give up your habit, or B) practice your habit somewhere BESIDES your train room, imo you don't deserve any sympathy.
If getting fired because you smoked pot in your room and got caught shocks and enrages you...well, I'm sorry to tell you you're a dumbass.
If you wanted a different outcome, you should have taken preventative steps or kicked the habit.
I'm already tired of these peoples' friends crying foul as though this is a crime against humanity or something.
I understand it's a shock to see your friends go so quickly, but if you're going to continue smoking and you know there are random inspections, you should be prepared to lose your job at any moment. It's nobody's fault but your own.
The issue of whether pot should be legalized or not has nothing to do with it. Those are the rules laid down by this privately-owned company.
Anyway, glad I don't smoke pot.
