Life has been going on.
Took this about a week ago after a shower at the park.
Tried to quit Blockbuster recently, because BG is adding a show and keeping us an hour later. One hour of Busch is worth two at Blockbuster. But they still want to schedule me, so I have no problem with that. If they do it on my days off and on weekends, it'll still give me 10 hours per week, so I'll be at 50 between the two jobs. 10 more hours would be ideal, but can't have everything.
Haven't heard back from either of the two job interviews I took...guess I'm not surprised. The cleaning lady wanted to check my references, who are all a) people who work 12-15 hours per day, b) people living in different time zones, or c) musicians, so it wouldn't shock me to find she couldn't get in touch with a single one of them or they declined to comment/call her back. I don't generally like obligating people to stick up for my ass. And Macy's, if they're interested in hiring me, won't get back to me for another month I'm sure.
I took the VA Beach audition and it went 'ok'. They took it seriously, separating me and the other auditionee, and had four people listening to us. They had me play a solo (thank goodness I brought one, it wasn't listed), and that went ok although for this group I should have picked something less modern. Then I did the Tuba Mirum, and they had me play the opening measure in a variety of styles. Then the Rimsky-Korsakov Russian Easter 2nd trombone excerpt, also played several different ways (i.e. "play it like a chanting monk. Ok now play it like a patriotic American"). It ended with the Hungarian, which imo I performed the best. They asked me questions about my future, goals, etc. It was a good experience, though I was nervous and did not do as well as I should have.
Today my trombone is in the shop to get the slide felts replaced, I hope to get it back before beach rehearsal tonight. I want to spend some time in the ocean.
