Flashpoint and Canadian Military info needed
Calling all Flashpoint fans or anyone with knowledge of the Canadian Military
I am wanting to write some ficcage. Mostly just drabbles at the moment but they are the kind that could easily turn into proper fanfics that last more than just a few hundred words to maybe numerous chapters, but I need some information. I like to be as authentic as possible even when it's fanfic so I need the help of someone (or more) who know a bit about the CA military ranks etc. Also someone willing to beta for me.
Warning, some of the questions could be considered a bit spoilery so I'm putting them under a cut.
1- does anyone know what Rank Sammy was when he left the JTF2? According to the official JTF2 site one has to be at least a Corporal to try for JTF2, but we know Sam spent at least 4 years fighting, and with his father being a General and stuff I don't think he's one to rest on his laurels and do just what will get him by. How quickly would/could one work through the ranks if they are in Sammy's boots? in the States he'd prolly be pushed by his father to go to West Point or Air Force Academy and that would put him on the fast track for at least a Lieutenant if not nearing Captain by the time he left. But if he didn't go to college and went military straight out of school, well we're still looking at likely ten-ish years in. So any help there would be much loved!
2- are there military academies (read as COLLEGE LIKE - not like the one in He Knows His Brother for troubled kids)in Canada? and for which branch(s) of service?
3- What is the 51st? When I googled it all I could find was the 51st Royal Highlanders but that is a Scottish unit in the services of the UK, I believe. And when he's introduced to the group at the end of Scorpio (S-1,E-1) they say he was part of the 51st. Soooo, I'm kinda assuming there's a difference between the two. Anyone know what it is?
4- Did anyone manage to catch exactly what type of "vintage colt" Sam used in the field in the JTF2?
5- Does anyone have or know where I can get a copy of that pic he shows to Jules? and then hangs in his locker. I think it's of him and his friend (Mac I think?)
