So I'm due for a new computer and R is thinking a Mac. I have not used one since highschool, so half a lifetime ago. Any mac users out there? Love to hear your thoughts either way.

It depends on what you want to use your computer for, your budget, and what you're used to.

A Mac is great and powerful machine that can let you do tremendous amounts of things with videos, graphics, etc. However, I find them to be geared towards people who wish these features, not for someone who just wants a home computer. I am sure it could be used for that purpose, but in general their more expensive than a PC.

A decent quality PC, with a lot of good features you can easily get any form 700-1100, depending on what you want. They are relatively dirt cheap now. Most of the time you can get monitors throw in as well. Windows is probably what you're used to, and its a good bet in my opinion to stick to what you know. Shop around the shops and you can find a good deal, and keep an eye out for sales as well.

Hrmm, either or can be good but what I would do is just figure out what you want to do with the computer, and what the budget range is and if you're willing to re-learn an Operating System you haven't been on in quite awhile.

Windows Vista doesn't suck too bad, and has a lot of features by the way. You could always install Ubuntu linux which is very user friendly once you learn how to install programs.

I am starting to ramble. Bottom line, if you want something powerful to do graphics and videos, go with a Mac. It comes excellent programs to do that with. If you just want a home computer for every day use, internet, word processing, unloading digital pics, etc. Windows machines would be cheaper, and just as powerful. It all comes down to which Operating System you want. So, pick it off that I suppose.
