Volume 2, which is also the last volume, came out recently and so I bought it like a nerd. It took me awhile to get into it; the first chapter was pretty blah for me because I was having trouble making myself interested in Asch. It picks up, though.
I think it was the explanation of his feelings / his really sweet affection toward Natalia that made me plod on. It ends quite well and is pretty solid. I just wouldn't recommend reading it if you haven't played or finished Tales of the Abyss. A lot of that second book would be pretty blah if you didn't understand what else was going on at that point in the game and so on.
The art is pretty good and fairly well-varied, too, which is a plus. I spent a lot of time re-wording Jade's lines in my head, though; some of his struck me as really clunky and not very Jade-like, and some more weird grammar things happened, but it was okay. ("The Malkuth"? Really?)
A-aaaah, I'm terrible and I sort of want to start writing badfics again. Someone stop meeee.
Ooh, and on a final un-related note (haha pun) I have a violin concert today. I'm playing a Bach piece. Wish me luck! :>
