RIP WoW

Oct 06, 2012 10:21

So, my last public entry
was a goodbye to social
networks like FaceBook.

This one is something I said goodbye to
right before I bid farewell to FaceBook.

I'm talking about something I have been
a part of since even before MySpace,
and only recently stopped playing.

I'm talking about the one and only :
World of WarCraft

Good while it lasted )

LMAO!
Ahhh, those were good times, my friend :) We didn't even need a single expansion to enjoy the game... especially with the group we had. Ah yes, I'd chase you around telling the male Human long joke that was a parody of Lord of the Rings, and you'd sit on me in bear form, giving me a view of bear booty lol. I was always the perpetually late Warlock who wishes I could have been there sooner to summon everyone else :P And YES! Uth was indeed a Warrior who actually listened! And if he couldn't keep the aggro, I just pulled out my VoidWalker to help lol. Hol was always sweet, even if it took her a bit to get the hang of things. Dah was also always very kind and a good Hunter dps. We were well balanced :)

I may have made other friends on there as time went on, but it was never even close to the group we had. As they say, less is more - when the game was simple, we made the most of it together.

Whoa!
You actually met Dah?

I bet that was an interesting experience. As you well know, the g/f I had at the time didn't last, and to this day I'm surprised she never joined us for an adventure. I'm actually not that surprised to hear both Uth and Dah have married and started their families. Too bad about not knowing what happened to Hol. I know it's not pleasant to think about, but I do remember her being older, and none of us really knew much about her personal life or medical conditions, etc. I was using FB, but as you may have seen in my other recent entry, I have my own beliefs concerning social media networks, and no longer use mine.

I agree though about the silly kids thinking they can run everything. Too many kids and teens started playing as time went on. Some of them may know what they're talking about, but they're still kids emotionally.

As I mentioned in this entry, everyone has a right to like the aspects they do of the game, even if I don't agree with it or like it. I can see how the pet battle thing gives us something new to do, but my issue is more-so with the crowds it attracts... which is a complimentary point to what you said about not wanting to deal with silly kids. I'm actually kinda surprised WoW never added some kind of wood cutting/crafting profession. They claim it would take too much to add the nodes, but Runes of Magic did it, and that's a free MMO lol. It would also easily work with other professions, and even give the new levels of professions a chance to make wood cutting useful, as well as implement reagents of the older prof's into wood crafting.

The other expansions just seemed so much more diverse, even if I didn't personally like TBC.

You know what?
It may just be feasible to meet up at our in-game bar again. The game is free to play now up to level 20. We could always have one last hoorah taste of vanilla / original WoW (even if Cata revamped all the newb zones), quest together up to that level together, and say a final goodbye to WoW together at that tavern. And yes... complete with Ruler of the Bracelet joke :P

The other thing I have considered since I have Vanilla through Cataclysm, and since I don't plan to go back to WoW, is the possibility of trying out a free private server. Only potential problem is risking any private information in the wrong hands. Otherwise, the legit game up to 20 is free, but with tons of restrictions ::shrug::

Yes... I'm so glad you remember it as fondly as I did. I would be laughing my head off trying to keep you just out of hearing... every single day roflmao... Our group was magic and though I've tried I've never managed to get it back. I'm glad that you decided to talk to me that day after we did that random together. It was like... those other peoples are crazy I'll talk to this healer girl... who's probably a guy playing a girl toon (which I wasn't :O!)

I'd met Dah during the tower of anthrax quest line (as I liked to call it and pulled you two together.) I did. She worked at Disneyland so I got in there for free back when I did my round the world trip in 2007. So THAT was cool! Then I had a friend who had a friend who worked at Universal so we got in there free too. THAT was awesome! She's great. Just like she was in the game.

Yeh I tried to get into ROM but for some reason my computers always rebelled against them. But, I don't really want to be playing mmorpgs unless it's as a social thing with people I know and keep it to a minimum.

It would be cool to play together again. I don't know if we'd be able to get to the tavern without getting our arses kicked I think it was a level 40 area wasn't it? I dunno what it is now. I'm over on Khazgoroth on the Oceania servers these days. (or I will be once I figure out what's blocking me from getting on now that I've moved.)

But yeah, wow has never been the same since our group. I have one friend who I met around the same time as we were all going our seperate ways. We were there when we hit 60 and 80 together. 70 too maybe. I'm not going to bother getting the panda expansion not until it's down nice and cheap.

I hope that you and I will stay in touch even if it's just through here as I think that the reason our group got along so well was because we were friends before we were wow toons. We'd talk about real life instead of just being about Wow.

Oh you know what REALLY cracks me up? You and Hol bought my first mount for me... and I fully intended to pay you guys back - then you both disappeared. So I always felt guilty whenever I rode it. Then... my friend got annoyed when I didn't have an epic mount so she bought me the epic mount so I could keep up with her LOL. I have bought my own since then;)

I wasn't surprised she didnt run with us. I just always got the feeling she was jealous of our group or at least that's how she came across. I think she was okay with Uth but I dont think
SO many good times. Was it lord of the bread or something? I think they've taken it out now which makes me kind of sad.

The problem with playing together is the damn time difference.

Yeah I wonder about Hol. I think she was either in her 60s or 70s. I don't remember. She was awesome. We all were. sigh... I guess it's true you can't go back.

But, we can look back and smile at all the great times we had. LOL if we do have a last hurrah then I'll have to make a druid and you'll have to make a lock and be late for everything LOL!
