By their virtue, and their strength, but more importantly, their motive. There are not many I would trust to turn my back to, let alone to consider a friend.

Admittedly my standards are rather low, but you should meet some of the people I've had to deal with in my existence.

Relying on appearances and first impressions is a swift path to self-deceit. The most socially gifted are usually the best liars.
