With as quiet and still as he's being, it would take a double glance to notice Vincent standing near a wall. One of the more noticeable things about him is he's probably quite a lot younger than you'll remember. In fact, he's just started his job as a bodyguard for a certain pretty scientist ( Read more... )

"Ideally, yes... Though, emotions always have a way of making things a pain in the neck."

He takes a moment to contemplate her words then nods hesitantly. "I agree."

Oh, look; an alternate. He eyes the younger version of himself with intense seriousness, cinnamon eyes looking akin to glowing embers for a moment, trying to express how important this is. "Stay away from her. Stay away from Hojo. Refuse the job, even if you are fired for it. You'll regret it, if you don't." His younger alternate might notice that he is quite a few shades paler than he used to be, and also much thinner. Not to mention the new costume.

It takes Vincent a moment to realize the man in front of him is himself and that immediately hits the wrong chord with him. He studies him, taking in his appearance and sighs, adverting his eyes. He can't tell how old he is or what exactly happened, but he's sure this doesn't bode well. "...What happens if I don't?"

"...Quite a few events which are worse than death. She's not who you think she is, and Hojo is much more dangerous than you might think."

He gives no sign that his alternate looking away from him upset him, a little. There were many who did not wish to lay eyes on him.

"Depends," comes a reply from another shadow. In the Nexus, Ding prefers to put his skills as a "ninja" (read: light infantry specializing in stealth warfare) to good use. "Usually I stick duty in the front, but if the emotions have to deal with family, honor, or loyalty... sometimes they trump duty, for better or worse."

The fact he can't initially see Ding puts him on edge, but his words settle him and calm his nerves in a strange way. "And if they have to do with someone you've been instructed to protect?"

He takes a moment to consider his answer. "...Technically speaking my job consists of protecting many people any given day. There are always emotions present when death is a plausible outcome, even if they're suppressed." Pause. "You do your best and hope for the right outcome. Nothing's guaranteed; but nothing is impossible with the right set of tools, skills, and mindset, either."

Another brief pause and he's trying not to grin. "...If it's a chica, then protect her right and eventually she'll come to you."
