"It's certainly more detailed."

Ali is curled up in a chair, seeming to study a book very intently. Maybe she's even studying.

"And just when do you think you're going, young man?"

[almost_adonis]

"Mom!" She's caught him, and he gives a slightly nervous laugh. "Well, I thought I'd see if I could catch Amaris' naming-day. I mean, at an age where I'll remember it, and bring her a present."

[vicioussweetie]

"Indeed. I think Sasha and Amaris both would enjoy that a great deal. So where were you really going to go?"

[almost_adonis]

"That's really where I'm headed. I just need to find a good gift, first."

[vicioussweetie]

Ali does not really believe him yet.

"Ah, that would make going and gifting her something more difficult. Did you have anything in mind?"

[almost_adonis]

"Well, I'm not sure I can top some of what she got, but I'd like to give her something she'll look back on and be glad she had it." He scratches the back of his head. "That's really vague, I know. But it's not like I can just ask her, 'what would you have really liked for your Naming that you didn't get from mother or mom or your godmother or auntie Sel?'"

"True, true. Well, books are always good."

[almost_adonis]

"True," he readily agrees, "she loves books. But which book?" He broods on the question; think, think-think.

[vicioussweetie]

"I'm sure you'll think of something."

[almost_adonis]

"Yeah," he agrees, "I'll have to." But that can be a subject for a little bit later. "What about you, mom? Have you got a favorite bit of history you've visited?"

[vicioussweetie]

Ali taps her fingers against her book while she thinks. It's a good question.

"I can't really decide."

[almost_adonis]

"Well, that's fair. Maybe you can show me some of the highlights sometime?"

[vicioussweetie]

"What, haven't I taken you on adventures?" Ali looks a little offended at the idea she might not.

[almost_adonis]

He laughs. "Of course you have, mom! I was just wondering if I gave you the idea."

[vicioussweetie]

"Of course you did," she assures him in that tone mothers use where you can't tell if they're being honest or not, but it doesn't really matter anyway.
