There's a new face in the Nexus. This is, of course, not an uncommon occurence. This new face belongs to a young man. Well, he might be a young man. Then again, he might not be. He's not really short, or really tall, or thin, or particularly fat. All in all, he's a pretty average-looking guy

Mr. John Smith smiles extremely pleasant smile at the Lord's only begotten Son. "It really doesn't, does it? But I do have to ask, you know."

Yeah, I know. How've you been?

He shrugs a bit. "I've been well." The smile never slips. Never. "As well as could be expected. And you? I hear there was some trouble a while back..."

Not that he had anything to do with it. Of course not.

"That depends who's making the rules," Ali points out, "and what the angel wants to say. There are a lot of people who can't abide honesty."

He smiles politely and nods in her direction. "How terribly true." A small laugh, and he extends his hand. "Mr. John Smith. A pleasure to meet you."

The name puts her a bit on edge. Mostly because she's wondering if he's got a sonic screwdriver now. But now is the time for handshakes, not pocket-searches.

"Likewise. My friends call me Ali."

Everyone knows that 'John Smith' is the name you take when you're trying to be incognito.

He bows over her hand. "Truly it is a pleasure. Do tell me, though, where it is I seem to have found myself?"

Andrew is certainly interested in this new arrival. He tilts his head to the side and then nods slowly. "It can be, if what is on his mind is displeasing to That Bastard."

He laughs. It's a good, hearty laugh. "Oh, I wouldn't call Him that."

He'd call Him much worse, actually.

"It's the only name I'm going to call him that's fit for even slightly polite company." He chuckles lightly.

Mr. Smith laughs as well, and it's a light-hearted, cheerful laugh. "And what did He do to you, if I may ask?"

Doesn't matter. Either his conscience compels him to speak, and face the consequences, or it doesn't.

He chuckles. "Consequences suggest that is, indeed, a crime." He spreads his hands in front of him again, shrugs a bit. "I've never seen it as such."

Something doesn't need to be a crime to have consequences. Simple cause and effect.

If you don't think it's a crime, then why ask?

His smile turns a bit apologetic. "There was a bit of a row over words said, I'm afraid."

He sounds genuinely concerned about the fact, too. "Perhaps some things were said that should not have been."

"The big question is, does the Angel have any choice in the matter?" Death says.

Mr. Smith smiles pleasantly at the young lady. "Supposing he does?"

"Then I'm sure he can decide for himself." Death smiles back.

He chuckles. "Perhaps he can, but perhaps other people don't quite see his point of view."
